Machines are tough for timing. I hated hitting off of them, with the exception of the old school iron mike with the arm, I could time that up. I’d hit breaking balls off machines very rarely. I’d have my flipper simulate offspeed pitches randomly during cage work. I think that the machine is great for pop ups and receiving/blocking drills, but for hitting it should be used sparingly imo. I know that some people can’t throw BP, but if you don’t have at least some exposure of hitters to a live arms timing mechanism then it really doesn’t do much good. You can have the best swing in the world but if your timing is jacked up then it won’t matter. If you want to see more velo then have a BP pitcher set up L screen 5-10ft closer than normal. I promise it will get on you quick. Prince Fielder would do his cage work like this.

@dannybarrand_ Yeah think it’s all just banking on the aforementioned positive traits w/ him & then letting an org’s PD mold the rest. Definetly riskier investments to make than the SEC SP performer with + strikes, + FB & athletic mvmnt patterns. FB will touch 3 digits down the line IMO

@EEJC15 Guess you can go above-avg on spin feel. Really don’t like the gyro velo gap and on top of that he doesn’t really command the changeup which actually has pretty solid specs. It’s just all pretty blurry outside of the fastball/athlete/strikes, which is a pretty good bet to make

Tennessee RHP Tegan Kuhns is one of the weirdest evals in the draft. Limited arsenal development room brings relief risk, but the fastball is unbelievable; 20” iVB from a 5.5’ relH at 94-95 t99 creates a super flat VAA. Freaky athlete with long extremities and a 4.6% walk rate.

@dannybarrand_ IMO bit more capacity to spin than just avg at peak but can def see that viewpoint given current shapes & inconsistencies. Someone is going to bite early on the athlete/mover & FB velo ceiling with already present + traits. 4% walk too. Rather need tinker w/ spin than FB shape

@EEJC15 Low-slot pronator with average spin feel. Slot and current shapes don’t allow for him to do much more than FB/SL/CB/CH. Thrown a cutter in the past which I guess maybe is fine for early count strikes. Will never be able to get around a sweeper or anything like that
