What happens after the NICU? For babies born extremely preterm, survival is only the beginning. As children grow, new challenges can emerge in school, in mental health, in development, and in daily life. This research poster, “Growing up preterm,” highlights the lived experiences of extremely preterm children and adolescents, and the perspectives of their families as they navigate neonatal follow-up care. Parents have shared that what matters most isn’t just medical outcomes, it’s quality of life! This specifically includes emotional wellbeing and support that continues beyond the early years. Because prematurity doesn’t end when a baby goes home from the NICU. At CPBF, we’re proud to partner with clinicians and researchers across Canada to ensure family voices shape the future of follow-up care from NICU to childhood and beyond.
