Birds and snakes share a variety of connections shaped by mimicry, predation, and survival. 🐍 This Lunar New Year, we celebrate the Year of the Wood Snake and it is the perfect opportunity to explore the remarkable interactions, adaptations, and evolutionary strategies between these two animal groups. 🌑🎉 Despite often being pitted against one another, they continue to shape each other’s survival in fascinating ways. 🐦 Discover more here 👉 birdlife.org/news/2025/01/2… #BirdLifeInternational #LunarNewYear #BirdBehaviour #YearoftheWoodSnake 📷1 Rudmer Zwerver, 2 Craig Cordier, 3 Chase D'animulls/ Shutterstock

@MargaretAtwood: Championing Birds and Biodiversity ✨ While celebrated for her iconic novels, @MargaretAtwood is equally passionate about bird conservation. As she reminds us, “We are not apart from nature; we are a part of it. If the biosphere fails, so do we.” A long-time supporter of @BirdLife_News, Margaret has championed causes like protecting the Critically Endangered Swift Parrot in Tasmania and co-leading BirdLife’s Rare Bird Club alongside her late husband, Graeme Gibson. Graeme’s legacy lives on through the Graeme Gibson Fellowship, which trains emerging conservation leaders. On December 17th, we celebrated Margaret’s love for birds at NYC’s Lotos Club with a fireside chat, book signing, and auction. Funds raised will support BirdLife International and Pelee Island Bird Observatory. Thank you, Margaret, for inspiring action to protect our planet! 🦜💚 Read more here 👉 birdlife.org/news/2024/12/1… #Conservation #Leadership #MargaretAtwood #BirdLifeInternational

Does conservation work? Our paper by @rewild shows that it does: a global analysis of 665 trials (incl. several by @RSPBScience) found that conservation improved the state of biodiversity or slowed declines in two-thirds of cases @BirdLife_Sci science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

🌍Science Proves Conservation Works!🌱 Exciting news! A groundbreaking study, co-authored by scientists from BirdLife International, confirms what we’ve always believed: conservation efforts are crucial and effective in stopping and reversing biodiversity loss. 🔬 "This analysis provides the strongest evidence yet that our conservation measures are indeed making a difference," says @stubutchart, Chief Scientist at BirdLife International. "They not only slow the decline of species populations and habitats but also enable their recovery." The findings highlight the importance of our work from local to global scales, showing just how critical the BirdLife Partnership efforts are for protecting and restoring biodiversity worldwide.
