In 1992, Ghana rang in a new era with its very first mobile phone call powered by Mobitel, operated by Millicom Ghana Limited. Launching the country’s inaugural 1G analogue TACS network, Mobitel brought mobile service to Ghana four full years before GSM giants like Spacefon (the future MTN) arrived. By the end of that historic year, nearly 19,000 Ghanaians had joined the mobile revolution, making Ghana one of the very first nations in sub-Saharan Africa to go cellular.
