On Stars and Victory+, the team has said things are currently status quo. The Stars are team that have put most on line with/bet biggest on V+ and Stars owner Tom Gaglardi is one that setup V+ with the WHL
@ELee2014@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport I like the Stars. I used to live in Dallas and they're my Western Conference team.
I definitely understand the PR aspect. I think the best scenario for everyone would be a 3 team trade where the Stars get Larkin and another piece, the Pens get Robo, and the Wings get a bunch.
Elliotte Friedman: Re Jason Robertson/Penguins: I don't know why it didn't happen, but I heard there were some pretty legitimate talks - 32 Thoughts (7/6)
@C_M_F_87@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport Yeah, will be an interesting few months. They are in trouble either way and people around here already mad about the situation. Just don’t think they can swing a trade at this point unless some superstar or big name is coming back. We shall see.
@ELee2014@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport That's what I think they'll do. I think they'll trade Hintz or Harley and resign Robo. I've been saying that all along.
My point was that the Penguins are actually a good match if they end up trading Robo as they can stay in win now mode and Robo becomes the guy they trade.
@C_M_F_87@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport They aren’t championship caliber this season almost no matter what they do. I’m extremely aware of their cap situation and they would rather move said other person to sign him and depth pieces. They probably make some lower level trades as well. Load up in 2027/28.
@ELee2014@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport You need to look up the cap situation. I explained it in my other reply. They need to sign A LOT. Without moving a contract they'll be too top heavy and not championship caliber.
@C_M_F_87@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport Seguin and his near $10m come off the books and the caps going up. This is the team that was just trying to trade for Werenski. They aren’t going to settle for Rakell or Rust +, hence why it hasn’t happened. Those are fine players in a vacuum, but not what the stars are after
@ELee2014@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport Rakell is entering his age 33 season and Rust his age 34. Rakell is a 60 point guy that can play C and kill penalties, and Rust is a ppg winger that kills penalties. Both are equivalent to high 1st round picks.
The Stars are still in a bad cap crunch next season.
@C_M_F_87@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport Theres almost no chance this happens without a third team. I’m a Stars STH and Nill cant sell a 35 yr old forward and some picks/depth pieces. This team is also shedding a massive amount of salary after this season and they would rather move out another player to run it back
@ELee2014@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport 3 team trade is most likely with Larkin going to Dallas. Dallas can't afford Robo without moving a contract. He's going to get $11 or $12 mill in arb at a minimum.
Pit is the best option without Larkin because they can provide an affordable top line scorer/depth in the package.
@C_M_F_87@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport I just don’t see a fit in Pittsburgh. They don’t want picks or prospects and the Penguins have no one that moves the needle for the Stars on their team. They would be better off trading him midseason after going to arb.
@ELee2014@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport Good thing I didn't say that then. It's a 1st round pick and an A prospect in addition to a player worth a 1st.
Some people don't understand assets. If the Stars would rather have two 1sts instead of Rakell or the prospect, that's also reasonable.
@FrancescoIader1@jim_tro@NHLRumourReport LMAO no it doesn't. He's not getting trading. The Stars don't have much leverage. They can't afford Robertson without moving out a contract.
@NeonCascades@DNei26@Theo_Howard14@KMaC703 To be fair the vast majority of the 2026 American team plays in Europe. There are a few MLS stragglers, but the best players are overseas.
With the Benn signing, the Stars remain on track to extend Jason Robertson.
They’ll likely need to trade both Steel and Faksa, which should bring in some additional draft capital.
Signing Robo at $14m leaves them with $714K in cap space.
@billpeduto The Stars don’t want 30 something past their prime players. They are better than the penguins for a reason. They aren’t taking their trash.
Would you trade
Karlsson
Rakell
Novak or Girard
Blomqvist
Burnicke or McGroarty
Koivunen or Pickering
2027 1st
2028 1st
For
Thomas Harley
Jason Robertson
If not - what would you offer, that Dallas would accept?
@jonmorosi Yes. Raking a guys entire calf with the studs of your cleat and then almost breaking his ankle by stepping on it is a red card every day of the week. Wreckless and clumsy, even if it wasn't intentional.
I can get on board with the Mavrik Bourque deal if it sets up bringing Jason Robertson back. Emil Hemming has a real shot of making the roster (especially now) and so as long as it prevents the primary core from being moved, you're still sitting pretty.
Mavrik Bourque told me in May: “I don’t see myself anywhere else than being a Dallas Star. They drafted me six years ago, and I'm finally showing me what they were hoping for when they drafted me.”
