This week in #EM203Robin, we learned about the importance of multimedia engagement in 21st-century learning. I now understand that digital literacy is essential, allowing us to effectively navigate and engage with visual, auditory, and graphic information.

This was a very interesting article, Riya. Although I was aware of animal testing for cosmetic products, I never considered what animals actually went through during the process. Shocking that big-name brands still use this practice.

As seen in this image (retrieved from The Climate Change Review), pesticides used in textile production can cause water eutrophication, which is when pesticides deplete oxygen in the water and cause algae blooms. Depletion of oxygen can also kill fish if levels drop too low

it aches me to see that this style has reached fast fashion since the whole premise of it was to make clothes out of scraps of fabric to avoid them being sent to waste and the fact that its now being made out of brand new fabrics pisses me off

A lot of people confuse fast fashion with cheap clothing. It's true that fast fashion is cheap, but not all cheap clothing is fast fashion. The two terms are not synonymous. Fast fashion is a very distinctive thing. 🧵

@rmcleman It's certainly difficult to develop a solution when people do not recognize an issue to begin with. When I took ES110, it was interesting to learn about my daily impact on the environment. This assignment sounds like a very effective way to teach students about sustainability!

@EM203kwilson An important thing is for student groups to raise awareness, I think many fellow students are not aware of the issue. ES110 students just did an assignment where they make inventory of their clothes, fibres they’re made of, where they’re made, & the enviro impacts.

While considering solutions to fast fashion, this famous quote by Gandhi came to mind. While it is difficult to change the fashion industry overnight, real change can be made through individuals making more sustainable consumer decisions #EM203Robin
