@laligaandbeyond Jose Mourinho is yesterday’s man. I don’t think he has what it takes to lead this team to success. And I don’t think he’s what we need. We need a manager who can build a long-term project on modern, attacking football. We need a Klopp more than a Mourinho.

No I get the sense he's campaigning for the future but if he can make a dig into Pérez base it will stand him in good stead. In terms of Mou desperate times sometimes call for desperate measures. He came and dragged them out of a barren spell once although I agree with you it's not very exciting or appealing

For what it's worth I don't think Enrique Riquelme can or will win the election for Real Madrid president. It's so tough to unseat the incumbent when they have so much power especially one as powerful as Florentino. What I will say though is I have been impressed with his strategy, first of all he's not turned it personal like Fort did with Laporta in fact he's come out to say Perez is the greatest president in the clubs history and spoke about the impact of the Figo transfer on him growing up. Second he's focused on issues that matter to the socios and haven't gone down well like the redevelopment of the Bernabéu which hasn't improved the experience for season ticket holders and the proposal to turn a % of the club into private hands. We know from reporting close to the club Perez hasn't tabled the privatisation idea to a vote as it's unpopular with fans and their is a fear internally that it would be voted down He might not win but long term he's giving himself a real chance of being the opposition whilst recognising the sway Pérez still holds with socios

@laligaandbeyond I think Riquelme is really preparing for the next election in 4 years than fighting this one. But I don’t think a surprise is completely off the cards, especially if he can present a compelling sporting vision. Don’t see much appetite for a Mou-led “project” myself…

@EMCTeach It's a great example but I think it's very difficult. Even after the last two years it's really hard to see Pérez even coming close to losing

@EMCTeach @GabiNotGabriel_ True, but we don't need Tchouameni to really spam 20m passes. Camavinga and Valverde have been the ultimate disappointments in midfield. Ideally, both need to go this summer and we get a controller + Nico Paz.

@DragonEmperorMJ @GabiNotGabriel_ Trent and Huijsen aren’t defenders. 3 of our 5 most played midfielders can’t pass the ball. That’s a problem. Vini is second behind the lack of skill on the ball in midfield.

@EMCTeach @GabiNotGabriel_ Guler and Bellingham can Huijsen and Trent are great long range passers Klopp had no passing midfielders except Thiago yet he dominated everyone because he built around Trent. We can do the same. Vini-Mbappe is our biggest problem

@DragonEmperorMJ @GabiNotGabriel_ I’d disagree. There are issues with the Vini-Mbappe dyad for sure. But I’d argue our biggest issue is the midfield. Most of our midfielders can barely pass the ball twenty feet in front of them.

@EMCTeach @GabiNotGabriel_ Yup, they did well for the most part. Our biggest problem whole season was the front line.

@WolfRMFC Perez has run out of ideas and has destroyed the locker room. I’m glad he’s going to be forced to explain his decisions and his vision of the future. Even if he wins, he owes the socios and the fans an explanation.

@jabezel @stacktheboxftw @KiyanSo Yes, which is what you want from a ST. The striker pins the CBs, the wingers apply the pressure, the ST sweeps up the panicked pass. That’s how effective pressing works. You don’t understand the point, clearly.

What's interesting is that Alonso got Mbappe to press at a very high level initially. By October Mbappe led the big 5 leagues in possession won in the final third. It was a massive uptake in his pressing from the season prior. Then it fizzled etc
Managing Madrid@managingmadrid

Similar to what @XabiAlonso told @KiyanSo last summer, which was: "You need a team that presses as a unit. We have 11 individuals and all of them need to work together. It's something we need to address"

@Mogic05 @EMCTeach @stacktheboxftw @KiyanSo He cannot comprehend others working their ass & Mbappe putting his signature. We all watched the games, for 2 games he was pressing. Few games later, it was on & off but he got lazier & lazier as season went on. We watch him lose the ball & go statue as they walk padt.

@Mogic05 @jabezel @stacktheboxftw @KiyanSo You’ve literally been presented with evidence that he wasn’t “doing the minimum”, and your response is to pretend that applying pressure so misplaced passes can be swept up is “not pressing”.

@EMCTeach @jabezel @stacktheboxftw @KiyanSo He’s right though. This is why Xabi tried so many different attacking line-ups with Mbappe to see how the team can press with Mbappe doing the minimum. What’s Mbappes distance covered during that time ?

@theMadridZone He’s been injured for 3/4s of the past 3 seasons. The idea that the coach got 6 of those 18 months is to blame is laughable.

🚨 BREAKING: Eder Militao BLAMES Xabi Alonso for his recent injury issues. He believes Xabi rushed him back too quickly at the start of the season, after 2 seasons where he barely played. He believes THAT is the reason for his 2 muscular injuries this season, that will make him miss the World Cup. @marca

@stacktheboxftw @KiyanSo Possession won in final 3rd = pressing. Learn about stats with context & consideration. I can win posession by others running mad & me, just lazily marks 1 guy & intercept a forced bad pass.

@JBOrantos Si es el Madrid del threepeat, el portero es Keylor. Gabriel vs Varane puede ser una discusión, el Kroos vs Rice y el Gyokeres vs Benzema es directamente ragebait.
