Radioactivity from both human activities & natural sources are a concern in the Arctic. At #Assembly 2024 @AMAP_Arctic & @EPPR_Arctic spoke about radiation in the Arctic as well as increasing risks for incidents. Stay tuned: both Working Groups will have new reports in 2025.

As shipping & exploration activities in the Arctic increase, so does the risk of oil spills. In 2013 under the auspices of the Council, Arctic States signed an agreement on marine oil spill pollution in the Arctic. @EPPR_Arctic implements the agreement & operational guidelines.

As traffic in the Arctic increases, so does the risk for accidents. In 2011, Arctic States signed an agreement on search & rescue in the Arctic to improve cooperation & coordination in the case of incidents. Our @EPPR_Arctic Working Group supports & implements the agreement.
