Good job Sofiah! Since paper is by volume the biggest contributor to landfills, recycling it not only saves energy and is good for the environemnt, but it also leaves room for things that can’t be recycled or composted! @franklinlorax #apeswaste

This is why it is important to properly dispose of batteries! Some can be disposed of normally and recycled, others should be taken to special facilities that dispose of them for you. @franklinlorax #apeswaste

Since we are home all day, my family has been generating more waste from our home. We make sure everything that can be recycled is put into the recycling bin, which reduces the amount of our waste that ends up in a landfill. #apeswaste @franklinlorax

Cool picture Alyssa! The greenhouse gas emissions are definitely decreased due to the stay at home order, which is good for our environment! @franklinlorax #apesair

During this quarantine, everyone in my family has greatly reduced the amount we drive our cars. Since cars release products such as NOX into the air, greenhouse gas emissions are lower! @franklinlorax #apesair

Nice job Alyssa! Using lightbulbs such as these is super important and also an easy way to save energy. Using less efficient light bulbs only increases the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, without a big difference in light given off. @franklinlorax #apesenergy

Not only does it save him money, it also helps to reduce the amount of co2 emissions as he is driving. These types of cars are super cool and are a step in the right direction for ECO friendly transportation! @franklinlorax #apesenergy

My dad’s car has ECO mode. This means that at certain times when he drives, the engine operates in its most economical range and saves him the most money on fuel. @franklinlorax #apesenergy

Being inside all day has increased the amount of energy my family uses on a daily basis. One simple way we can conserve energy is by remembering to turn off/unplug any lights that are on when leaving the room! @franklinlorax #apesenergy

Lumber is used for so many things that we use everyday! This is one of the reasons why it is important to harvest trees in a way that is beneficial for the sustainability of each species of trees, or else we would be left without many resources! @franklinlorax #apesland
Sophie Hoffman@SophieH06991554

My dining room table is made out of pine wood. Lumber is used most for construction materials to make things such as paper and furniture like this. Wood is also used for many other things that we use in everyday life. @franklinlorax #apesland

Cool picture Alyssa! It’s a good thing sand has low water retention otherwise it would be very difficult to build sand castles! These observations are very similar to the flow lab we did in class to measure each value of different particles #apesland @franklinlorax

So many important things in my house were made out of wood. There are doors, tables, etc that were made from some type of wood & the trees that were used for these play a huge role in our eco system and should be harvested with sustainability in mind #apesland @franklinlorax

The world population is growing so fast! We’ve all grown so much in such a short period of time, but so have over a billion other people. Nice picture Sofiah! #apespop @franklinlorax

One easy way to reduce our ecological footprint is by eating more vegetables. I took the eco footprint quiz, and we would need 4.1 Earths for everyone to live as I do. I can lower this by eating less wasteful foods! #apespop @franklinlorax

elephants are similar to humans in this way! fewer offspring with more attention and care for them means a higher chance of a long life. nice job alyssa! @franklinlorax #apeseco

this is my dog otis! he is an example of a k-selected species because dogs only have a few offspring. they prefer quality over quantity, so puppies are usually cared for and nurtured by their parents rather than being left at a young age! @franklinlorax #apeseco

Most people in Franklin get their water from Lake Michigan. In my case, I get my water like most people in the U.S., from groundwater. My house has a shared well dug underneath my backyard, which is where I get my water from. #apeswater @franklinlorax
