🆕 The @RoyalAstroSoc Awards have recognised contributions to Webb 🏅 🔴 The 2026 Herschel Medal was awarded to Professor Andrew Bunker of the @UniofOxford. Among his other contributions, Prof. Bunker has been a core member of the Instrument Science Team for the ESA-provided #NIRSpec instrument since 2005! 🔴 The 2026 Jackson-Gwilt Medal was awarded to Professor Alistair Glasse of @STFC_Matters UK Astronomy Technology Centre, Edinburgh. Prof. Glasse has played major roles in the development of mid-infrared instrumentation, including as lead Instrument Scientist for #MIRI since 2001! 1/2

🛎️ It's quiz time! Webb revealed a black hole which appears to predate its host galaxy, QSO1, possibly forming within the first second of the Big Bang. It examined the black hole thanks to the gravitational lensing effect of a galaxy cluster.

🛎️ It's quiz time! Little red dots (LRDs) have presented a mystery since they were discovered by Webb in 2022 🕵️‍♂️ but the spectrum of the LRD GLIMPSE-17775 has shed light on this mystery.

A journey through space 🚀 This image, captured by the #NIRCam on Webb, features the galaxy cluster MACS J0553.4-3342. It is so vast that its gravity causes light to curve, revealing distant galaxies – including galaxies from less than a billion years after the Big Bang! 1/2
