My gratitude to all of my colleagues @Livermore_Lab, particularly my mentors @Jeffinerca and @erinnuccio, for supporting me as an early career scientist. I look forward to future collaboration with LLNL colleagues as I embark on this new adventure.

We cite previously described solutions to these issues in the paper (credit to @GeostatLark for describing these in 2006: doi.org/10.1111/j.1365…). I have no doubt better approaches will emerge going forward. Thanks for reading! (5/5)

Another thing to keep in mind when pondering changes in soil carbon: normalizing changes by initial values will automatically create a curvilinear relationship between the normalized change and the initial value (4/5)

To measure change in soil #carbon: sample T-zero vs ~5yrs, right? Or use space-for-time design? Turns out there’s a problem w that.. @ESlessarev describes two artifacts that exaggerate importance of initial SOC stocks doi.org/10.1111/gcb.16… A big issue for soil #CDR calcs??

@kegrant73 @alainfplante We installed heavy-duty fencing around our pit, and covered it with plywood. We didn't add any shoring to the walls, although perhaps we should have!

Do any of you soil tweeps maintain large soil pits long-term (multiple years)? If so, how? (walls? roof?) If not, is it because you periodically dig new ones because maintenance isn't worth it?

Update: post-Roe fallout in state houses and courts make it ever more clear that scientific organizations like @AGU should not risk the safety of their membership by holding conferences in states with an abortion ban. 🧵 docs.google.com/document/d/1ko…
