Every year, thousands of people accept what they believe are legitimate job offers, only to find themselves trapped in scam compounds, stripped of their freedom and forced into cyber-enabled fraud. Human trafficking is evolving in the digital age. Criminal networks exploit deception to recruit victims and force them into criminal activities. On the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the EU reaffirms its commitment to fighting trafficking through stronger international cooperation, support for victims, and action against the criminal networks behind these crimes, including a proposed new EU sanctions regime targeting organised crime. The attack on 25 July at Berlin Pride is a stark reminder that the right to celebrate who you are, safely and openly, cannot be taken for granted. Pride was born as a protest, and in many places it still has to be one. The EU stands with the LGBTIQ+ community, in Germany and everywhere. Defending the right to live openly, without fear, is not a seasonal gesture, it is a continuous commitment. Hate does not get the last word.
