Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50 met the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the European Commission, @KajaKallas, on the sidelines of the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Manila. HR/VP Kaja Kallas warmly recalled her recent bilateral visit to Islamabad for the 8th round of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue. The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation under the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan. Exchanging views on regional developments, they underscored that sustained diplomacy remains the only viable and durable path to peace and stability, particularly in the context of the US-Iran situation. They also discussed its broader implications for regional security, global energy markets, maritime security, and trade and supply chains, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue and adherence to international law. DPM/FM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the effective implementation of all international conventions underpinning the GSP+ framework and underscored the importance that Pakistan attaches to its economic partnership with the European Union. #ARF2026

The EU remains firmly committed to supporting the UN-led efforts on Cyprus. I had a good call today with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguín, ahead of her visit to Brussels and the UN Secretary-General’s upcoming visit to Cyprus. We discussed recent developments on the Cyprus issue and the importance of maintaining momentum towards a comprehensive settlement. We agreed to continue our discussions during the UN General Assembly in September.

Opening an EU Delegation in Muscat is a milestone in our relations. It is a clear signal of our commitment - to Oman, to the Gulf, and to stronger security partnerships with the region. The EU's network of currently 145 delegations around the world is one of its greatest strategic assets. Today, we are expanding our diplomatic footprint in an important part of the world. The new EU Delegation in Muscat is a tangible sign of our growing partnership with Oman. Today, HR/VP @kajakallas and Oman's Foreign Minister @badralbusaidi signed the Establishment Agreement. At a time of heightened regional tensions, the EU and Oman will continue working together to advance dialogue, de-escalation and support safe and secure navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and beyond, in line with international law. EU naval operations @EUNAVFORASPIDES and @EUNAVFOR Atalanta are indispensable to safeguarding maritime security in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. It was impressive to see the professionalism and commitment of the crews on the Italian and Spanish navy vessels firsthand. Their work helps keep some of the world's most vital shipping lanes open. Aspides has already protected more than 670 merchant vessels against the threat of Houthi attacks, while Atalanta is playing a pivotal role in combatting piracy and deterring arms trafficking off the Somali coast.

#Afghanistan: We welcome the appointment of @USGRabab_UN as the new Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General. The EU looks forward to working with her in Kabul and international fora, including future steps for the ‘Doha process’. The world must not forget Afghanistan.

This week we held our first-ever Political and Cooperation Association Committee. We reaffirmed the values that bring us together: democracy, the rule of law and a commitment to working more closely. Our partnership delivers for people on both sides of the Atlantic.

Ethiopia is a valued partner for the European Union and one of Africa’s most influential countries. It was good to meet with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli and Foreign Minister @GHessebon in Addis Ababa today. We discussed the region's most pressing security challenges, including the devastating war in Sudan, Al-Shabaab's terrorist threat in Somalia, Iran's attacks on its neighbours. We also talked about Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its repercussions beyond Europe. Stronger EU-Ethiopia ties are in our shared interest. Our relation delivers. And we are committed to more cooperation, more business opportunities, more investments.
