The UK automotive market grew 5.92% YoY in Q1 2026 to 614,854 units—but the real story is the seismic shift in competitive dynamics. German brands still lead with 25.66% share, but contracted 2.81% YoY. The divergence is clear: premium badges like Audi and Mercedes held steady, while mass-market stalwarts like Volkswagen faced steep declines, underscoring pressure on legacy ICE models. Chinese brands are the defining growth story, surging 72.63% YoY to 18.10% share. BYD’s triple-digit expansion and Jaecoo’s explosive growth signal they’re no longer niche players, but mainstream competitors reshaping the market with aggressive EV strategies. Japanese, South Korean, and US brands all faced headwinds, with flat or declining sales. Even Tesla saw a drop, highlighting how its once-unchallenged EV dominance is now under threat. The takeaway? The UK market is no longer just “growing”—it’s being redefined. The gap between EV-first disruptors and legacy brands will only widen from here. #EVAFocus #UKAutomotive #Q12026 #AutoIndustryTrends #ChineseEVs #MarketDisruption

Someone on Reddit said he sold his Nvidia shares 23 years ago to buy a $1,000 engagement ring. Today, those shares would be worth $1.88 million. Then I saw someone in the comments say: “Between 23 years of a happy marriage and $1.8 million, I’d choose the marriage.” #EVAfocus #Nvidia

NIO has just launched the ES9 — a massive executive electric SUV aimed straight at the luxury market. This is being called China’s largest battery-electric SUV, with three rows, 697 horsepower, and up to 620 kilometers of range. But the biggest surprise is the price. The ES9 starts at 498,000 yuan, which is around 73,400 US dollars. And with NIO’s battery rental plan, the entry price drops to 390,000 yuan — around 57,500 US dollars. That puts it directly against luxury rivals, but with NIO’s battery-swapping ecosystem and a huge focus on rear-seat comfort. To make the message even bigger, NIO brought in NBA Hall of Famer Yao Ming as Chief Experience Officer — a perfect move to highlight just how spacious this SUV really is. Deliveries begin from May 28 for selected versions, and the launch has already given NIO shares a strong boost. So the question is: can the ES9 help NIO win back momentum in China’s premium EV market? #NIO #ElectricVehicles #AutomotiveIndustry

Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo didn’t hold back on the new electric Ferrari “Luce”: “If I said what I really think, I’d harm Ferrari. We’re risking the destruction of a myth. I’m very sorry about that. I hope they at least remove the Prancing Horse from that car.” Ferrari’s EV era is already controversial. #Ferrari #ElectricVehicles #AutomotiveIndustry

Starting from Q4 2026, Volvo fully electric vehicle users in 29 European countries will be able to use the Volvo App directly to charge at Tesla Supercharger stations, with access to more than 20,000 chargers. Previously, brands such as Polestar, Ford, and General Motors had also either already connected to Tesla’s Supercharger network or were preparing to do so. #VolvoEV #TeslaSupercharger #ElectricVehicles

I used to think Chery was simply planning to export Chinese electric vehicles to Japan for sale. But it turns out they have directly launched a new brand in Japan called EMTA(エムタ). Their goal is not just to sell Chinese cars, but to build a new local Japanese brand. On the China side, Chery will be responsible for batteries, platforms, supply chains, and development speed. On the Japan side, a former Nissan team will handle product definition and the market strategy. Their first model, coming in 2027, will directly challenge Japan’s toughest market segment: the K-Car market. Chery is really bold — they dare to think big and take action. #EVAfocus #AutoInfluencer #Chery

📊 Türkiye Automotive Market Q1 2026: Shifting Dynamics in a Slowing Market The Turkish automotive market closed Q1 2026 with total sales of 210,688 units, marking a 5.8% year-on-year decline. Beneath this overall slowdown, regional brand groups show starkly different trajectories, revealing clear winners and losers. 🇫🇷 French brands lead the pack with a 25.9% market share (54,653 units) and an 8.7% YoY growth, driven by Renault’s 14.2% rise and Citroën’s 17.8% surge. Peugeot (-6.3%) and DS (-13.2%) saw declines, but the segment remains the strongest performer overall. 🇩🇪 German brands hold 20.3% share (42,783 units) but declined 9.6% YoY. Volkswagen stayed nearly flat (-0.9%), while premium brands like Mercedes-Benz (-25.0%) and BMW (-38.7%) faced steep falls. Opel (+1.3%) and Audi (+2.0%) were rare bright spots. 🇯🇵 Japanese brands saw a sharp 11.8% YoY drop, slipping to 13.4% share (28,232 units). Toyota (-1.1%) was relatively stable, but Nissan (-17.1%), Honda (-6.1%), and Suzuki (-6.1%) all declined, reflecting broad pressure on traditional Japanese models. 🇰🇷 Korean brands grew modestly by 3.1% YoY to 11.5% share (24,282 units). Hyundai was nearly flat (-0.5%), while Kia (-19.1%) fell sharply, though new brand KGM (+99.6%) made a strong entry. 🇨🇳 Chinese brands claimed 9.2% share (19,371 units), down 1.2% YoY overall. BYD (-25.4%) and Chery (-10.0%) faced declines, while emerging players like Omoda, Chery, and others showed mixed results, signaling both opportunity and competition in the EV space. 🇹🇷 The domestic brand TOGG held 4.5% share (9,419 units), growing 38.8% YoY and standing out as one of the fastest-growing players in the market. 💡 Key takeaway: French and domestic Turkish brands are outperforming in a contracting market, while German, Japanese, and many Chinese brands face headwinds. The shift underscores growing competition, rising local and regional preferences, and the evolving role of EVs in Türkiye’s automotive landscape. #EVAFocus #TurkishAutoMarket #AutomotiveIndustry #CarSales #MarketAnalysis #Türkiye

The second-hand residual value of electric vehicles in the UK has already dropped to the bottom in Europe. As of April this year, the average residual value of three-year-old electric vehicles in the UK market was only 38% of the original retail price. By comparison, Germany, Spain, and France are all still above 46%. #EVAfocus #EV #UK

A Tesla Model Y taxi in Spain, with 219,000 kilometers on the odometer, recently suffered a battery failure. The owner was stunned when he inquired about repair costs: a battery replacement would cost 20,000 euros. This car might not even be worth that much as a used car now. 😂 #EVAfocus #CarTalk #Tesla

NIO is starting to scale back its overseas expansion. Li Bin recently stated that NIO will not withdraw from overseas markets, but will significantly slow its expansion pace and will prefer to find local partners rather than continue large-scale direct sales. #EVAfocus #CarTalk #NIO

Mercedes-Benz is also building its own fast charging system, supporting 400kW fast charging. However, some users have reported that the startup process is not simple, requiring multiple steps through the on-screen menu, which is difficult for some users to grasp. Some even reported taking several minutes to successfully start charging. #EVAfocus #CarTalk #MercedesBenz

An AI makes electric car batteries last 23% longer without increasing charging time Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology have developed a new AI-based method that claims to increase the lifespan of electric vehicle batteries by nearly 23% without increasing charging time. The breakthrough focuses on optimizing fast charging in a way that doesn't lead to increased battery wear. The research aims to address an increasingly relevant problem in the electric vehicle sector. Fast charging is especially important for users who travel long distances or rely heavily on their vehicle, but at the same time, it accelerates battery degradation due to the chemical and thermal stress they undergo.
