Nearly done with proofs for the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Tourism History—out in February. It's packed with interesting stuff. Quite chuffed with it! #History #tourism @unetweets

Latest book cover in @CornellPress's "Histories and Cultures of Tourism" series is out! Stefan's wonderful forthcoming book provides a fascinating comparative study of the political, social, cultural, and economic implications of tourism development during the Cold War.

Gerald D. Reid, @GovJanetMills's Chief Legal Counsel, claimed my findings that Maine redacted the Articles of Separation from its constitution to hide its Wabanaki treaty obligations are a "false premise" & "discredited." So, read this thread summarizing my research with caution.
Catherine M. Burns@cmburns21

Question 6 asks Maine voters whether to return the Articles of Separation—also known as Article X, Section 5—to published copies of the state constitution. Some speculate that their exclusion was a paper-saving measure or attempt to make the constitution easier to read.

I am thinking of changing my profile bio to read: Author of "the false premise that Article X, Section 5, was dropped from printed copies of the Constitution as part of an effort to conceal or evade Maine's legal obligations under the treaties." mainemorningstar.com/2023/11/07/mai…

It's time to vote on Question 6 in Maine. I've created this thread to explain why Maine redacted Article X, Section 5 of the state constitution in order to hide its constitutional duties to uphold and defend Wabanaki treaties made with Massachusetts. #MaineHistory

When I was Chair, I had to review the student evaluations for undergrad courses taught by PhD candidates. Some of the students’ comments were so offensive, I began telling Instructors not to read their evaluations. No employer gets to require you to read anonymous insults.

Wonderful new book in the Histories and Cultures of Tourism series—one of the very first studies of tourism labor and a hugely important addition to the scholarship on #tourism and empire. The conclusions aren't what you likely expect. #History @BethanyWasik #Africa

I'm grateful that the @pressherald published my letter regarding the omission of my testimony from its coverage of the public hearing on LD 78, a bill proposing the return of Maine's Native treaty duties (Article X, Section 5) to the printed constitution. pressherald.com/?p=6995216

Great, @WBUR is also spreading the false story that there is no historical explanation for why Maine redacted Article X, Section 5--Maine's Native treaty responsibilities--from the Maine Constitution. wbur.org/news/2023/03/0…

I just heard @KevinMiller207 say on @MPBN that there's no clear historical understanding of why Maine redacted Article X, Section 5 from its constitution. I wrote an award-winning article explaining why. I testified at the public hearing on LD 78. What else do I have to do?

My reflections on being a graduate student in the vanishing field of history and the profession's pathological inability to confront the job crisis directly. Published in the @chronicle today. Many thanks to @david_wescott for the careful edits. chronicle.com/article/down-a…
