“I can not wait on institutions to SEE my genius! I must be VALUED for who I am and what I bring to the table. I must be CARED for, even when it causes discomfort for others! I am no imposter in the spaces I take up, I am here for a reason!” @dmarigutierrez 🥳🙌🥹

Feeling inspired by my team! 🌟 After 3 meetings w 3 dedicated coaches, its clear that our focus remains on teachers we serve. The challenges in pub ed are concerning, but I’m grateful for passionate advocates fighting for our educators. Let’s keep fighting for change! #nisdcoach

To ensure that teachers do a lot of thinking, coaches need to resist the temptation to give advice. When coaches take a top-down approach, telling teachers what to do, they create dependency and rob teachers of the chance to think for themselves. -ICG ow.ly/lC4h50UgamQ

I said, “happy happy joy joy” to my kids today and they looked at me like I was nuts. Anyone remember where that’s from? #90skid

Setting up kiddos for literacy success in PK! Love it! Phonemic Awareness is completely appropriate because it is sound based play! Love how this teacher knows that early Pk would be appropriate for her 3 yr olds & even works through half day schedules! ❤️🙌

@BenisonMrs Why do you think this occurs? Could it be more of not trusting the process vs immediate results? Both are research based. These are just questions to open conversation. I completely agree with your viewpoint.

We need knowledgeable leadership at the top of reading instruction decision-making. Teachers need to be led and coached. This week I heard someone state that they wanted to change the scope and sequence of UFLI and someone else that they wanted to recreate OG to fit ELLs-different instances. This is NOT how any of it works. My heart sank, because of the misunderstanding it revealed. The intentions are good, but a lot of harm can be done in the name of good intentions. I was left with the certainty that my 10-minute conversation as to why this was not appropriate/effective/necessary was less than enough. Teachers who do not understand "the what", "the how" and "the why "of what they are doing can both steer ships in the wrong direction and be themselves steered in the wrong direction.

Note: “Before stepping into…kindergarten” If you have programs for littles that support them before kindergarten, then you need to be tracking their progress.
