Type 2 Diabetes May Not Be Progressive - But Treatment Often Is Type 2 diabetes is often described as a progressive disease. In reality, what usually progresses is the treatment, not the disease itself. The condition advances because: •Insulin resistance is not directly addressed •Lifestyle is treated as an “adjunct”, while medication becomes the main strategy •Medications compensate for dysfunction, instead of correcting the underlying mechanism As insulin resistance worsens: •One pill becomes two •Two become three •Doses increase •Eventually, insulin may be added Blood sugar may stay controlled on paper, but the metabolic problem continues underneath. When the core mechanism - insulin resistance is ignored: •The body needs more medication to force numbers down •Side effects increase •Flexibility decreases •Dependency grows This pattern is seen repeatedly: •Early diagnosis •Gradual escalation of drugs •Eventual belief that progression is “inevitable” But progression is often a reflection of strategy, not destiny. Addressing insulin resistance through nutrition, muscle preservation, movement, sleep, and metabolic awareness can slow, halt, or even reverse this trajectory in many individuals. Treating numbers manages disease. Treating mechanisms changes outcomes. Progression is not inevitable when mechanisms are addressed.
