In the more than 20 years since the term “microplastics” was first coined, a rapidly growing body of research has consistently shown how pervasive and problematic the pollutants have become. A 2024 #ScienceReview provides an overview of this research and the progress made in understanding #microplastics. scim.ag/3Dwbac5 #ScienceMagArchives

Just in case anyone out there in the public domain still thinks your food production will remain as it's always done in the coming years, you haven't experienced anything yet. If you don't have a stable climate, you don't have the ability to have stable food production. #Reality

Now we begin to face the consequences of 40 years of ignored warnings. ‘Poor cocoa harvests have been caused by climate change and crop disease.’

This is the #1 climatologist in the world: James Hansen. He’s spent 50 years studying what humans are doing to the climate. He's gone out on a limb time and time again - and been proven right. His message? It’s far worse than they’re telling you. 🧵

The unprecedented heatwave that saw Norway, Sweden and Finland exceed >30°C for a record breaking 22 consecutive days has been found to be 10 times more likely due to climate change. The heatwave triggered a huge influx of hospital admissions due to heat related illnesses.

This should be near to or the top of all news most days. The fact it isn’t is why it’s appropriate in the coming years for many media owners, editors and senior staff to be held complicit in the disaster approaching us economist.com/interactive/sc…

Five years ago today, we launched #RainfallRescue to rescue millions of hand-written UK rainfall observations. I thought it would take months. Just 16 days later, with the help of 16,000 volunteers, the transcription was complete. Paper: rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

We were promised action; all we get is betrayal. In 2023 water companies in England and Wales spent 4,608,494 hours dumping sewage into the environment. @Ofwat say if you get a 1 star environment rating your bonus will be banned. Q: How many water industry fat cats do you think would get their bonuses banned for dumping 4,608,494 hours worth of sh*t into the environment in 2023? A: None. Every single bonus would be paid. What a shambles!
