National insurance is like, hey we’re gonna take £1,200 out of your wages for the next 50 years and then when you retire we’ll give you £200 a week

Scotland already produces more energy than we need. Nuclear energy is expensive, harmful to our environment, and poses an unnecessary risk. Keep Scotland nuclear-free ✋🛑

"During the financial crisis, I wanted every moment of every day to be spent doing everything that could be done to save people’s homes, savings, pensions and jobs. That a member of the cabinet at the time was thinking more of himself and his rich friends is a betrayal of everything we stand for as a country" — Gordon Brown in tomorrow's Guardian. Peter Mandelson has always been a pernicious influence inside the Labour party, and is a disgrace to British politics more generally.

It’ll be the end of BBC Scotland if Stephen Craigan gets paid by the word. Talking more than the commentator 😂

The crowd at the Olympics was not booing JD Vance. If you’ve ever been at a sporting event where they yell Coop or Lou it sounds very similar. They were yelling JD.

Can you please provide details of the billions in export and investment deals you claim to have done with China. Other than China cutting the tariff on whisky — worth a mere £250m spread over 5 years to an industry which exports over £5bn every year — I can’t find any. Where are the billions in extra UK exports and new Chinese investment in UK resulting from your trip?

🗓 Scotland and Norway struck oil at the same time. 🇳🇴 They used their wealth to build a better future. 🇬🇧 Westminster used our wealth to plug its own gaps. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland needs the power to decide its own future. Westminster has been holding us back for too long!

Is that it? Having contorted himself to please Beijing, Starmer’s “big win” is getting the same visa deal that France and Germany already have. He sells himself, and the UK so cheaply. It’s pathetic.

Exclusive: The United States no longer believes that Sir Keir Starmer’s deal to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands is in its interests and is “not going to put up with it”, Nigel Farage has said The leader of Reform UK met Scott Bessent, the US Treasury secretary, at Davos in Switzerland last week after President Trump accused the prime minister of “weakness” over the Chagos Islands The US originally supported the deal but Trump and Bessent signalled they were opposed to it last week amid an acrimonious row over plans to annex Greenland. The government has admitted that the deal would collapse without the US agreeing to overhaul a 60-year-old defence deal struck with Britain Farage said: “Scott has looked at all of this and has said it’s not in our interests, it’s not in the interests of the western alliance and frankly we’re not going to put up with it “Donald has been obsessed with the Middle East, Iran, Ukraine, you name it. This has been seen necessarily to be an item six agenda. Now it is up the agenda. They could not have been clearer about how they feel about it: they are horrified about it.” thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…
