Hate to say it, but a very forgettable trio. Really wanted Bogavac to be good - so much hype. Thought Powell had some potential, hustled/played hard, could hit a threes but never went off. Never played enough to have a complete game. Not a difference maker. Good luck to all!

@Edgar_Walker Most hardcore UNC basketball fans do not watch the NBA and therefore had zero context on Mike Malone until yesterday.

Love the Mike Malone hire at Carolina. A bit perplexed by the UNC fanbase response to it. Carolina Basketball has struggled to play complete 40-min games, build consistent winning culture, and develop players into NBA stars (helps w/ recruiting). Malone checks the box on all 3

@Edgar_Walker The BB hire is still to be determined…he’s had one year - in which damn near the entire team hit the portal and he had to rebuild with scraps….that and Gio turned out to be a terrible QB. I’m not gonna judge Bill until this year or next.

@ScottSchiefelb4 Yep. I think throughout the day as people learned a bit more and realized the upside, common sense prevailed. Particularly once people realized how many UNC modern legends he has coached or spent time around

@Edgar_Walker I have connected with quite a few fellow UNC alums from my old days ('93 grad here) have chimed in, everyone is pretty supportive, particularly once Hansbrough was so enthusiastic. Anecdotes aren't data, of course.

@Edgar_Walker Larry Brown is a HOFer; true legend of the game. The only guy to win a NCAA & NBA title. A true unicorn A basketball savant No one would dispute this. No one Malone has 1 NBA title. That's nice. Nothing more The hope is Malone can somehow become become a fraction of what Brown is

Very enthused by the outpouring of support from UNC fans in the mentions here haha - Coach Malone (or “Moach” as we affectionately call him here in Denver) has the right personality, approach, and swagger to be a consistent winner. Let’s win the portal! Go Heels!

@Edgar_Walker Larry Brown won NCAA in 1988 & NBA in 2004 He is the only person to ever do it, certainly with high-level success at both He won Olympic gold, as player & asst coach. ABA titles as player. There is a reason only one person has that kind of record. It's not easy no matter eras

@ScottSchiefelb4 Didn’t look at any social media before posting that haha - just based on convos from the past few weeks + texts I received. People were hellbent on a current college guy (fine), but I think the Belichick debacle has clouded judgment a bit. Apples to oranges

@Edgar_Walker The fan base is fine. The social media lifers are upset because they didn't see it coming and they had all picked a different favorite. They all got a lesson in How Outside the Loop Are You, and it hurt.

@unc9876 @ChasedGod Well I’m glad!! I think it’ll go well, but lots of stuff needs to be figured out. I do think he’s the right guy at the right time. Now just need some good luck and some transfers who want to play for a serious coach who’s gonna get them better!!

@Edgar_Walker @ChasedGod Yeah I went to UNC as well and son there now. His friends at UNC love it, my UNC group texts all think it’s a homerun (we mentioned him as soon as Hubert was fired), and even my state Duke friends admit it’s a good hire

@gpmrntz Okay haha - not sure how to react to that one 🤷 I watched 90% of the games he coached in Denver. Insane track record of player development and establishing culture in 2 of the 4 hardest markets in NBA. Nothing about CBB in 2026 can be compared to Larry Brown or old era of CBB

@carolina_i52395 @KourtlandStokes There’s really no such thing as a “bad hire” haha - that’s like saying someone is a bust on draft night Malone is objectively immediately a top-4 tactician / game coach in the country right away. Staff will help with CBB minutiae. He’s not gonna be like Belichick with nepo hires

@unc9876 @ChasedGod Haven’t consumed any media today, never pay attention to other fanbases haha. Lots of texts from UNC folks in my life (I went to school there and work in basketball) - people were freakin UNC fans are pretty myopic - not a bad thing. Just fixated on Heels and college basketball.

@bhyancey @ToneTVoltaire I think the fanbase is generally fine, just very fixated / insular about college hoops, doesn’t realize how big the game is and how things are changing now. And they have very high expectations, but might not be in line with reality of competing every single year in 2026
