One of my favorite parts of developmental editing is when it’s like a puzzle; all the parts of the story are there, but they need to be moved and shifted to fit together. It’s satisfying to figure out how each piece can work with the others.

Sometimes, when I’ve been editing a book for a while, it’s bittersweet to finish the work. I guess it’s just a consequence of doing a really close reading, you get invested. Like, I’m gonna miss these little guys and their ever-changing adventures.
