Predicting transcription levels of low-expression non-coding RNAs from DNA alone has been a long-standing challenge. This study introduces MENTR, the first machine-learning method that can predict cell-type–specific transcription levels of ncRNAs—including enhancer RNAs—from only the surrounding DNA sequence (200 kb). MENTR greatly improves accuracy for low-expression ncRNAs and, through in silico mutagenesis plus GWAS integration, enabled the identification of over 10,000 disease-associated ncRNAs. The method has already supported biological discoveries in multifactorial diseases and received the JSHG Encouragement Award as well as the RIKEN Research and Technology Incentive Award (RIKEN OHBU Award). β-NaMnO₂ has long been limited by stacking faults that suppress its internal slab movement. This study reveals how eliminating those faults produces a clean, fault-free structure where MnO₂ slabs can slide reversibly — enabling smoother sodium transport and a more durable Na-ion battery material. The work doesn’t just advance material's science — it shows how complex structural changes can be communicated with clarity. People possess the ability to recover even when faced with various hardships. 💪✨ How do lifestyle habits and disaster-related circumstances shape resilience after an earthquake? Using data from the population-based Shika Town Study, this cross-sectional research examined middle-aged and older survivors six months after the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake to identify factors linked to resilience and quality of life (QoL). Key findings: • Women showed significantly lower average levels of resilience and QoL than men. • Among women, employment was strongly associated with higher resilience. • Among men, regular physical activity showed a significant positive link with resilience. • Middle-aged and older women were identified as the most vulnerable group post-disaster. These results highlight that environmental and lifestyle factors—such as employment, exercise, and social engagement—can help strengthen resilience and QoL even after severe adversity. 🌱 People have the power to rebuild not only their surroundings but also their inner strength. 🔗 Read the full study: linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S… #Resilience #EarthquakeResearch #QualityOfLife #DisasterRecovery #PublicHealth #ShikaTownStudy #ResearchImpact #Editage #GraphicalAbstract

Some breakthroughs in surgery don’t come from new technology — they come from reimagining what’s already in our hands. This study introduces a modified CLEAN-NET technique for gastric GISTs near the cardia, replacing a circumferential seromuscular incision with a semicircular one. A small change with a big impact: fewer staplers, less gastric deformation, and an uncomplicated postoperative course. And behind this innovation is a powerful message for young surgeons: even in regional hospitals, even in challenging environments, your ideas can travel far when they’re communicated clearly. For more than 35 years—ever since Spratt’s 1988 Nature paper—one key question has remained unresolved: How do commensal Neisseria species directly contribute to β-lactam resistance in N. gonorrhoeae? This study provides experimental evidence clarifying that link. By screening ceftriaxone-resistant commensal Neisseria spp., comparing penA regions, and generating transformants carrying the complete FC428-specific penA60 allele, the authors demonstrate that horizontal gene transfer from N. lactamica can confer CRO resistance to N. gonorrhoeae. Integrating in silico analyses, the study further proposes that recombination across the penA–murE region among Neisseria species may be a key contributor to emerging ceftriaxone-resistant gonococci, including FC428-related strains. A significant contribution to understanding antimicrobial resistance—and a foundation for future surveillance and molecular epidemiology studies. The commitment that researchers have is extraordinary, but it often comes at a personal cost. We know that around 1 in 3 career researchers show signs of "high-risk" burnout, pushing boundaries at the expense of time with loved ones. This Thanksgiving, we at Editage decided to help change that. Through our Take Me Home initiative, we showed our gratitude for the incredible work you do by supporting researchers to go home free of cost and spend time with their loved ones. We believe that true clarity and purpose are found when you are reconnected with the people and places that ground you. Thank you to every researcher who dedicates their life to research and discovery. We are proud to support you in your publication journey #Editage #TakeMeHome #Thanksgiving
