1. This History/Literary Thread is about my new book "Where the Mithuns Are: Essays on War, Art and Beasts" (how to order it is at end of thread!) These exciting essays include WW2 Burma & #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar, bison, elk, wolves, Heizer's "City" & Indigenous mound sites. 📚

@ahistoryinart Clive Branson was an extraordinary artist (& not-bad poet) & fighter vs fascism. He fought in Spanish Civil War & was killed as a tank commander in WW2 Burma. I wrote his epic story in my new book "Where the Mithuns Are: Essays on War, Art and Beasts" blueearbooks.com/where-the-mith…

Still lifes, even before they begin to be painted have been deliberately assembled: objects which the painter finds intriguing or touching have been arranged as compositions on the table or shelf and so it is here with Clive Branson's pictorial essay to WW2 (1940)

Beyond the bullets and bombs, a sophisticated process of judicial reconstruction is underway in large parts of resistance-controlled Chinland. Read my summary of a new report by the Chin Center for Peace & Reconciliation on @barbedwires_sub: open.substack.com/pub/barbedwire…

making a 🧵 compiling "International Women's Day" posts from 🇲🇲 groups, outlets, & individuals, since as @Greendorje hints below, women often still face increased barriers, marginalization, prejudice, & dangers in the revolution despite being a crucial & irreplicable part of it.
Dorje@Greendorje

On International Women's Day it would be nice to see some Burmese men make statements supporting women and the contribution they have made to the revolution.

On this International Women's Day I am once again remembering Kyal Sin, aka Angel, who was murdered by the Burmese state 5 yrs ago this week. She was, by all accounts, a generous and brave human, who refused to bow down to despotism. Everything will be okay.
