The only reason why the Pyramids exist in Egypt is because they were too heavy for British folks to steal and put in the British museum.

The whole point of the post is that CDI was not a biopic, not an adaptation and not a documentary. It was an original script. For reference Indian Women's team has not even qualified for a semifinal at the Hockey World Cup in the last 50 years, leave alone winning it. However changing that aspect in the movie doesn't seem to be a problem for the cribbers. But for a second let's assume it is a loose adaptation and Kabir Khan's character is based upon someone. In that case there would be 3 options to base it upon. 1. The coach of the 2002 Commonwealth Gold winning Women's Hockey Team: That guy was Gurdial Bhangu. Sikh, not a Hindu. 2. The guy who was the captain and attacker in the team which infamously lost 7-1 against Pakistan and then went on to become a coach of national team. That is the archetype SRK's character played. That was Zafar Iqbal. A Muslim. 3. The guy who was never the head coach of national team nor was the striker/captain during his playing days, but was indeed accussed of match-fixing and never played a game after that as a result of it. That was Mir Ranjan Negi. A Hindu. But the reason he was accused was because of his seemingly Muslim first name. Had his name been Mukesh Ranjan Negi, he might not have landed in that situation. So either way, Kabir Khan being Muslim is either no big deal since it is not an adaptation or it is a close representation to what happened during that match if it is an adaptation.

@EducatedMoron See when you're making a biography or loosely based adaption you should have resembled the names atleast. Here they've made a real hindu character shown as muslim which is quite questionable.

One of the biggest Mandela effects (phenomenon where a large group of people collectively misremember the same detail) on Indian social media is the widespread belief that Mir Ranjan Negi was the coach of the Indian women’s hockey team when it won the gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. The mandela effect here is so strong that it is very likely that if you ask Grok or ChatGPT who was the coach, it is likly to tell you it is Mir Ranjan Negi (which in part is due to lack of extensive reporting on sports in India barring cricket). But he was not. The head coach of that team was Gurdial Singh Bhangu (who is also the first hockey coach to receive the Dronacharya Award, India’s highest sporting honour for coaches). The team had M.K. Kaushik as a mentor during the preparation camp. Kaushik was the coach of Indian Men's Hockey team in 1998 Asian Games when team won gold medal the event after 30 years. And due to his expeience with training many women players at SAI, New Delhi, he was asked to assist as a mentor. He became second hockey coach to be awarded the Dronacharya Award in 2002, the same year India won that historic gold. He took over the coaching for Women's team from Gurdial Bhangu in 2002 just after the event. When Yash Raj Films began work on Chak De! India, the screenplay writer Jaideep Sahni loosely based the character of Kabir Khan on M.K. Kaushik, who had just taken over as the full-time head coach of the women’s team in 2002. Several details in the film came directly from Kaushik’s life. Even the scooter used by Shah Rukh Khan’s character was Kaushik’s. So where does Mir Ranjan Negi fit in and why does almost everyone remember him as the coach? Mir Ranjan Negi was the goalkeeping coach of the 2002 women’s team. His association with the gold medal was real, but his elevation in public memory had little to do with coaching hierarchy and everything to do with being at the right place and the right time. YRF wanted Kaushik to be the consultant for hockey scenes in the movie and prepare the cast for shooting. But Kaushik was actively coaching the national team so he couldn’t commit time as an on-field consultant during the film’s shooting. He suggested Mir Ranjan Negi (who at that point did not have a coaching job and needed something positive going for him in his life after losing his 19-year old son to a bike accident) to help YRF with hockey-specific inputs. Mir Ranjan Negi was close to Kaushik since they both played together for the national team and Mir was goalkeeping coach for the 1998 Asian Games too. Once Negi became involved with the film, he realised that Kabir Khan’s fictional backstory closely resembled his own real-life experience particularly the events of the 1982 Asian Games, where India lost 7–1 to Pakistan and Negi, then the national team goalkeeper, was accused of match-fixing, which was partly due to his first-name 'Mir' which can be perceived as a Muslim name. What’s crucial to note is this: the screenplay was already written by then. Chak De! India was not based on Mir Ranjan Negi’s life. But the film’s marketing machinery latched onto the emotional overlap. Negi accompanied the cast on reality shows and promotional tours. This was the early era of Indian reality TV, when personal struggle narratives were aggressively foregrounded. Even Jaideep Sahni later expressed discomfort at how someone who was only coincidentally associated with the real team began receiving disproportionate limelight, as if the film were an adaptation of his life. Even Mr. Mir has since clarified multiple times that the movie was not his biopic at all. However two decades later, Gurdial Singh Bhangu, the actual head coach, is barely remembered. M.K. Kaushik, also almost forgotten, passed away during COVID. While Mir Ranjan Negi remains in public memory synonymous with the 2002 triumph.

Chak De India movie -It was based on a coach named Ranjan Negi -Makers changed the name of the character as Kabir Khan -The movie was directed by Shimit Amin, played by Shahrukh Khan -When it’s a hero, they change it to a Muslim -When it’s a villain, they change it to a Hindu

Ok let me address this too from two different POVs: 1. The cinematic perspective: At a basic level, it is about storytelling. A writer introduces conflict and then resolves it, often with a satisfying or uplifting payoff. The protagonist being Muslim is just one of several such sociol conflicts in the film. There are others too like women’s sports not being taken seriously or players from the North-East facing discrimination. Over the course of the film, all of these get resolved. And resolutions doesn't even has to be realistic; for instance, the Indian women’s team winning the Hockey World Cup, which hasn’t happened in reality. Yet no one seems to question why that was changed from something like the Commonwealth Games to a World Cup. So clearly, creative liberty is being applied across the board. Also, there’s no rule that a fictional protagonist can’t be Muslim. Statistically, if you randomly pick six Indians, one would likely be Muslim. So it is perfectly reasonable that one in six India-based stories reflects that perspective. 2. About making Hindus “feel shamed” argument: First & foremost why would you feel shamed as a Hindu while watching that movie? I am a Hindu too and I never felt that way because I don’t go around calling players “Pakistani” or “Khalistani” when they perform badly. Why would anyone feel targeted unless they see themselves in the behavior being depicted by the neighbours of Kabir Khan? And are you really suggesting that such people don’t exist? As if we haven't seen people casually throwing such insults when Shami or Siraj had a bad day on the field. And before you try to counter it by "no that is done by Pakistani bot accounts to sow seeds of disharmony in India” here are few recent tweets for Shami calling him "gaddar". These are tweets still live on Twitter done by folks in India, connected to Indian playstore (not through VPN). [Except the Warlock guy's tweet who deleted it and then pretended that people are circultaing fake screenshot, though funnily enough almost every comment under his tweet was that they saw his tweet before he deleted it] I am not going to dwell further into this discourse, it is a working day, I don't have time and energy for it. Have a nice day.

@bojackinstaman Avengers: Endgame 'Battle of The Earth' end-to-end ('blip' to 'thanos turning ash') was 29-mins. That had 20 movies worth buildup & huge ensemble group in both ends. Yahan Hamza-Iqbal 30-min tak jhonta-jhonti kar rahe hai. 2nd half is proper bawasir level bad.

Interval. So far: Chapter 1: Very good, keeps up the tempo (even goes better). Chapter 2: Too generic, the absence of an alternate anchor like Akshay Khanna is apparent. Chapter 3: Plain bad. Just exposition after exposition after exposition. So far, no where near Part-1.

@Being_Alone08 Damn!! They used to serve plain popcorn and if someone wanted cheese, they had to sprinkle it themselves from little shakers kept by the side. Slightly dumb system but at least it cost one-third. PVR just loots in this regard.

@Vaibhav_MU @MrNarci @josepsburner In conclusion Fincher needs to come out of his Netflix jail. A Fincher movie is coming and we are not even couting it in all this and that ideally that should be just ridiculous.

@EducatedMoron @MrNarci @josepsburner Yeah, probably would end up being 2 spots for these blockbusters. I could see PHM and Odyssey having the best chance unless Dune 3 has a very different and better script than the source material. Disclosure Day and Narnia are not really the type of film Academy goes for nowadays.

@MrNarci @Vaibhav_MU @josepsburner Na na. They are not competing just for F1 spot. There is Barbie/Wicked slot too. Plus they have huge directors attached to them. Between PHM, Odysssey, Disclosure Day, Narnia and Dune, they will take min 2 slots. Can do 3 too.

@Vaibhav_MU @EducatedMoron @josepsburner I feel like for above line, esp for more commercial fare, there are limited spots, esp in a year like this one that’s packed. maybe it’ll be Gosling, maybe it might be Damon, maybe Chalamet, but overall I see maybe one of these get the F1 spot in BP
