@EdwardGerman3

I spent a lot of time on the internet, computer, and tweet often. I have been a long-time sci-fi fan. I'm also an avid podcast listener and novice podcaster.

Go Penny! These are both from Chick's Spellbound (1978), by the way.

@WeAreTheMutants Yes they were. The friend who gave me the tracks was the son of a Pentecostal minister, I should have had a lot to do with it.

@EdwardGerman3 Awesome. My dad and I went together to see it at our local theater. Loved it.

@DaveBuzan I do remember drinking new coke back in the day. It was ok to me but original was the best. But yes it was stupid to change it up in the first place.

Coca-Cola introduced a new formula on this day in 1985. Completely replacing their flagship formula, New Coke was described by their marketing department as being "smoother, rounder, yet bolder - a more harmonious flavor." By establishing a new flavor (sweeter, with a taste actually closer to Diet Coke), New Coke was an attempt to regain ground with the younger soda drinkers that Pepsi had effectively begun to corner. The consumer outrage about the change was so intense, Coke relaunched the original formula (dubbed Classic Coke) and had it back on store shelves within 79 days. New Coke (renamed Coke II) was ultimately discontinued in 2002.

"The Creature Walks Among Us" was released on this day in 1956. Superb final entry in the Gill Man series officially ended the Universal Monster films that began with "Dracula" in 1931. The ending of "Creature Walks Among Us" is particularly poignant, allowing a finality for the Gill Man that I still find emotionally impactful. While not wholly successful (the second act is much too leisurely paced; budget-squeezing overuse of prior underwater footage), the third film in the series took some huge creative risks. Compared to other last entries for the Universal Monsters, this one's the best. For this final film, the Creature was played by Don Megowan (very menacingly!) on land, and the legendary Ricou Browning underwater.
