For Todd Monken’s sake, I’m glad Jim isn’t coming back. Would’ve been a weird position for both of them to be in. As someone who still isn’t a fan of the Todd Monken hire, I really hope trying to keep Schwartz on as DC didn’t cost us other serious contenders for the role.

An issue that came up during the #Browns search was that some candidates wanted to bring in their own staff altogether. The idea of getting “married” to Jim Schwartz as DC wasn’t for everyone — regardless of how great he has been. It also worked the other way around: it was unclear whether Schwartz would want to remain DC with some of the HC candidates Cleveland brought in. The situation was complex.

Wow. Imagine forcing a DC on candidates, only for those candidates to back out then not retaining said DC.

Didn’t hire a young offensive mind who ended up getting multiple HC interviews and a pay bump to return to his team. Didn’t hire a young offensive mind who is being mentored by Sean McVay. Hired an old offensive guy who literally got his head coach fired after 18 years.

Haslam took exception to people saying the Browns were dysfunctional, and then turned around to be apart of the most dysfunctional head coaching search in professional sports history. because he didn’t think they were dysfunctional or because they weren’t dysfunctional enough?

If you lose out on Scheelhaase, I’d almost prefer you call Udinski’s agent and ask what the price and stipulations are to hiring him. Whether it’s complete control of the the staff, new GM, different office, Idc. It’s an extreme disservice to this roster to 1 & done a HC

@___Colb___ @JaredKMueller If true and they lose Scheelhaase, i think you have to consider telling Grant any coaching staff decisions are his own. And honestly, it should’ve been his decision anyway.

Still hoping for Udinski, but would be thrilled with Scheelhaase too. If it’s down to these two (and we get one of them ofc) and Jim Schwartz stays, it’s a pretty successful search imo.

In all, this is my issue with the Rooney Rule. I’m glad the NFL is trying to get minority coaches and executives. But the enforcement is so backwards that the incentive for compliance is avoiding punishment, instead of incentivizing teams to hire/develop minority candidates

Additionally, would the Browns and/or NFL open themselves up to a lawsuit just to fulfill the Rooney Rule? Provided they interview Scheelhaase, can the Browns argue they made an attempt to satisfy the Rooney Rule by trying to interview McDaniel in good faith before he canceled?

Open question: how does the Brian Flores racial discrimination lawsuit affect the way the Browns move forward? There are already mentioned finalists for the job. Any minority interview that comes through will seem like a sham interview unless they get the job.
