THE WAR IS COMING TO OUR HOUSEHOLDS Now the attacks have started targeting oil infrastructure, particularly in Oman. This presents a critical problem for us Maldivians. President @MMuizzu confidently stated that we would not face issues obtaining oil. This is technically true, given that the Maldives government imports oil from Oman, even though private companies ship from Dubai and Fujairah. Ships coming from Oman travel directly through the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, not through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, conflict within the Persian Gulf should not directly affect the oil supply to the Maldives. Seemingly, the government’s confidence relied solely on the assumption that the war would not spread beyond the Gulf of Oman. Unfortunately, attacks are now occurring across the Gulf states and are now targeting oil facilities in Oman. This could force outbound shipping from Oman to halt. That is when the real problems will begin for the Maldives. We do not maintain a strategic oil reserve; instead, we only have storage facilities designed to sustain the supply cycle from one shipment to the next. When supply lines are disrupted, there is little we can do, even if we have the financial resources to pay for it. Such a halt or disruption in shipping would cause an energy crisis, which would quickly worsen with the unavailability of other essentials, including cooking gas and food. Some may argue that the Maldives could still import oil from alternative markets such as East Asia. However, this would only be possible if the @governmentmv had already made prior arrangements. The real question is: have they? In a global energy and shipping crisis, oil prices would surge, and supply could become scarce as producing countries prioritize their own needs and impose export restrictions. I hope and pray this does not escalate further. We will be among the first nations to be hit hard, despite not being directly involved in the war.

Sri Lanka a country so small you almost miss it on the map, smaller even than Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Yet it had the spine to step beyond its maritime limits to rescue Iranian sailors after the U.S. sank their vessel. And us? We shout “emerging superpower” at every podium, but fall into silence when action demands courage. That tiny nation at least stood upright. We, on the other hand, look bent under the weight of our own foreign policy. Chest-thumping speeches about sovereignty are easy. but when the moment comes, standing tied to someone else’s leash is not strength. It’s surrender.

No civilian should die in wars. Our approach is that every life is as precious as our own. We jealously guard our non-aligned policy while ensuring that humanitarian values and the saving of lives remain our top priority. What the world urgently needs today is peace. There is a real risk of a severe global economic crisis, and entire societies are facing serious and complex challenges. We call upon all parties to demonstrate a firm commitment to peace. As a state, Sri Lanka stands ready to support every step toward ending hostilities. All our actions are aimed at saving lives and ensuring that humanity prevails.

Why do so many Americans think the biggest victims of “forever wars” are American taxpayers? What is a forever war to you is the complete decimation of another country. Kids in Vietnam are born today with birth defects from agent orange. Iraq, Libya -still in hell

Dhivehi Archives by Naajih Didi
#DhivehiArchives This is D. Ahmed Didi. He founded Ahmadhiyya International School in Machchangolhi Ward, which opened on 21 February 1982. It was one of the four schools established in each of Malé's four wards at the beginning of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's presidency. The school building was originally started by the people of Machchangolhi Avah (Avah), but the project was not carried out for various reasons and stalled. D. Ahmed Didi later took over the school, completed it at his own expense, and ran it entirely at his own expense in the initial stage. It opened on 21 February 1982 as "Madrasath al-Ahmadhiyya," named after the founder himself, unlike the other ward schools, which were named after their respective wards. D. Ahmed Didi introduced many different business innovations to the Maldives. This included designing the bazaar shops in a modern way. From the junction of Chaandhanee Magu and Fareedhee Magu to the north, up to Orchid Magu, the shops were modernized under his initiative. The area was then called the "Singapore Bazaar." He was the person to open the first modern standard style air-conditioned restaurant in Malé in the 1970s. He also brought trained chefs and waiters from Sri Lanka. The name was "Camillo Restaurant." He was at the forefront of importing goods from Singapore. The first circus was brought to the Maldives by D. Ahmed Didi. He also held shows with foreign musicians. He was a very kind man who helped many people with medical assistance and other things. These details are taken from a Facebook post by Mohamed Muizz Adnan. The original black-and-white photo of him was published in a 1992 issue of the Haveeru newspaper. The colorized version was colorized with AI.
