Strange, but true: If an activist wants to “change the world”, they should just have lots of kids. Having 4+ kids can easily turn into thousands of adults in the near future, and suddenly an activist isn’t just changing their current world, they’re changing the world in 2550.

I appreciate what she has done on transportation, but Hidalgo has been bad on housing and Paris’ population has fallen on her watch — it’s a European style of degrowth urbanism that has some useful lessons but shouldn’t be emulated.

A reminder that Mayor Anne Hidalgo will go down as one of the most consequential mayors of the modern time: a mayor who literally built 600 miles of bike lanes and made hundreds of streets car free in her 12 years as Paris mayor. Bravo.

Young men in Spain have gone to the far right. Given that immigration to Spain has caused much fewer problems than elsewhere, this is good indication that it’s not about actual grievances, but young men turn right because they’re just kind of stupid.

Can I say the quiet part out loud? I don’t want to work a corporate job anymore. I’m tired. It’s exhausting having to make money just to live on this expensive planet that I was plopped onto. I want to live a full life. I want to travel. I want to make lots of friends and love lots of animals. I want to eat good food, read good books, watch good movies, drink good wine and lay on my fucking couch. And I want to NOT have to write a bunch of stupid emails every day in order to earn those things.

Solar power today costs 50% more than it did around 2020, even though solar panels themselves keep getting cheaper. John points out that people often confuse the cost of panels with the cost of power. "A solar panel doesn't get you what you want. You want electrons at the location that load is at." But delivering electricity requires land, labor, transmission, and capital, all of which are inflationary.
