🚨 Iga Swiatek tested positive for a banned substance in August 2024 due to contaminated melatonin. Swiatek was provisionally suspended from September 22nd to October 4th and accepted a one month suspension which will end on December 4th.

@Elara38 @DiKitsch @TaraMoore92 @jon_wertheim @Tennis @TennisChannel She sent everything she took to the labs and they confirmed it was the melatonin, no? Iga has the resources for this. ITIA’s findings was consistent in term of percentage and dosage. While for Simona, the contamination dose was high enough to cast doubt that it was contamination

@Elara38 @cipriancaba @Pavlo__Escobar @WTA Not sure how you can tell it was fabricated, regardless, still a very different case to Iga’s and she should be ashamed of using other athlete’s good name to support her agenda

Statement from the WTA: The WTA acknowledges the decision by the International Tennis Integrity Association (ITIA) – which administers the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP) – in issuing a one-month suspension to Iga Swiatek, following the identification of a contaminated regulated medication (melatonin) as the source for her positive test for the prohibited substance Trimetazidine. The WTA fully supports Iga during this difficult time. Iga has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to fair play and upholding the principles of clean sport, and this unfortunate incident highlights the challenges athletes face in navigating the use of medications and supplements. The WTA remains steadfast in our support for a clean sport and the rigorous processes that protect the integrity of competition. We also emphasize that athletes must take every precaution to verify the safety and compliance of all products they use, as even unintentional exposure to prohibited substances can have significant consequences. We will continue to work closely with our athletes to provide education and resources that empower athletes to make informed decisions and maintain the highest standards of integrity in our sport.

@croocheck @cipriancaba @Pavlo__Escobar @WTA The passport issues were fabricated, dismissed by TAS for being non existent, Dosis was 0.2 ng/ml, so low that it was clear it was contamination without her knowledge. Still, they gave her 9 months for negligence. Why didn't IS got suspended for negligence too? Double standards!

@Elara38 @cipriancaba @Pavlo__Escobar @WTA Simona’s test showed higher levels of the banned substance than Świątek’s and she also had biological passport issues, which clearly shows she was trying to hide something. Instead of crying how badly she was tested maybe she should’ve handled her case in a better way.

@camillkaa90 @pierogaliotto @josemorgado Wow, even at doping Swiatek rules! The lowest concentration recorded ever! Imagine that Simona's 0.2 ng/ml gave her a 2 years ban! I mean..the math says Swiatek should have at least 6 months. Talk about that negligence rule that is now totally ignored by ITIA

@TaraMoore92 @jon_wertheim @Tennis @TennisChannel Her suspension was lifted from Oct 4th because they were able to confirm the source of the contamination. It was also apparently ITIA’s rule that made her unable to inform the public. Were they also imposed confidentiality on your case btw?

@Amazskow @Pavlo__Escobar @WTA It was contamination in Simona s case too. But they said that she is still guilty because she is responsible for what enters her body. Isn't Swiatek also guilty of that? Simona got a 2 years ban, they asked for 4 actually and Swiatek gets a slap on the wrist

@Pavlo__Escobar @WTA They are different cases! You can't ban Iga because she took contaminated medication. It was proven. So what is your point?

@croocheck @cipriancaba @Pavlo__Escobar @WTA And trimedazidine is a way more effective drug to enhance performance, it helps the body use oxygen, allows for more blood flow to the heart and limits quick changes in the blood pressure.

@WTA The double standards in Swiatek and Halep's cases from ITIA and WTA are mind-blowing. I wonder sometimes how you people can look yourselves in the mirror. Shameful!

@Tennispodcast24 @lewpy @Tennis And to use the words I heard most in Simo's case, a doper is a doper no matter what she used. It was also determined it was contamination without her knowledge and ITIA still gave her a 2 year ban after dragging her in mud. Swiatek got a slap on the wrist

@lewpy @Tennis These are two entirely different substances. Simona tested positive for a steroid, which isn’t something one accidentally takes, unlike a more common substance like melatonin for sleep.

🚨 BREAKING: World No. 2 Iga Swiatek has received a one month suspension after testing positive for trimetazidine. The ITIA has attributed the results to contaminated melatonin and ruled no significant fault or negligence. Swiatek will serve the remainder of her sanction through December 4th. tennis.com/news/articles/…

@Tennispodcast24 @lewpy @Tennis Roxadustat is not a steroid and it has a lot of bad side effects. Trimedazidine, used by Swiatek, helps the body use oxygen, allows for more blood flow to the heart and limits quick changes in the blood pressure. The latest is usually used by athletes to enhance performance
