Movie: UNMARRY
Director: Jeffrey Jeturian
Starring: Angelica Panganiban
Stars: 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow!
The first MMFF film I watched and it was such a delight in terms of blending the legal realities of annulment, a lawyer-Youtuber, and the slow burn of couples trying to “unmarry.”
1. I didn’t know THE Eugene Domingo was in this movie until I watched it – she played the role of Atty. Jackie who is a famous entertainment and annulment lawyer with a Youtube channel.
It was giving Atty. Lorna Kapunan or Atty. Claire Castro x Eugene Domingo, a blend of fiction and reality.
It definitely did not remind me of Rowena Guanzon or Ranny Libayan.
2. Angelica Panganiban was a tour de force in terms of being the anchor actor – she was the pillar and foundation on which the movie stood on.
She was just real – her acting choices were just raw and real and in the moment. She was very much in the present with each and every co-actor or scene she was in.
“As is, where is” if we use Babae sa Septic Tank’s terminology.
3. Tom Rodriguez was so effective as the hateable asshole husband of Angelica Panganiban. I wanted to punch or slap his character.
He was giving “jerk” and “punchable face.”
4. The movie reminded me of the financial and psychological violence that women face especially in the face of an arrogant/mayabang and controlling man.
It was giving Victor Consunji and Maggie Wilson legal scuffle.
5. Zanjoe Marudo was giving ordinary, down on his luck, humble, flawed guy that you still want to succeed.
He was effective as a loving father especially in light of the breakout star and scene stealer child actor whose character is named “Elio.”
6. Whoever discovered that kid – “Elio” – and taught him acting deserves all the praise and a raise!
Naluluha na ako kay Angelica Panganiban but my tears gushed when Zanjoe’s kid testified in court and acted his guts out without being like other child actors who act with a sing-song monotonous or stereotypical tune.
I would definitely recommend the movie for those who are going through something with their significant other – married spouse or jowa.
But definitely don’t bring kids. Maybe teenagers more than ten (10) years old.
Go catch it this December 25, 2025!
