@SaffronOlive @CardmarketMagic Cube. It’s a giant cash cow they have not tapped into. How hard would it be for them to balance a pauper cube and then sell 540 cards for hundreds of dollars? Slap some new art innit. Make it a secret lair, boom $1k sale price.

Was watching this @CardmarketMagic video and near the end Gavin mentions how Commander isn't a great fit for everyone & how Wizards is looking for other casual formats to take some of the pressure off. What other casual formats do you want WOTC to support? youtube.com/watch?v=7MJK0W…

@SaffronOlive @Clonenandbonein Yeah but then it buffs elves, halflings, dwarves, goblins, phyrexians, slivers, etc. Almost feels like Magic needs to define creature ‘families’. Like how they defined ‘outlaws’ and ‘party’ Have ‘humanoids’, ‘animals’, ‘reptiles’, etc. but then that’s even more stuff to ‘know’

@Clonenandbonein It probably makes the meme worse, but "non-Human creatures" is probably close enough and would make it way easier to read.

I'm sure there's some spider-man lore reason for the huge list of creature types, but honestly I sort of hate this design. It's just so hard to parse, seems super annoying to play with or against.

@nightgaunt98c @SaffronOlive So makes sense that cultivate is in 46% of all green decks & expanse in only 16% of ALL decks. Evolving wilds is 21%. I would speculate that between budget options, recent new std fetches, prismatic & fabled, slow&fast fetches, land cyclers etc that high % have land-fetch-land

@nightgaunt98c @SaffronOlive Not ‘quite’ accurate because of how EDHrec works. If you look at the # of decks next to the % you will see the cultivate % is from ~2.4m decks and Terramorphic from ~5.1m decks. That’s because the % are all from ‘decks it would be legal to play them in’. Not all decks.

First impression of brackets is that they could be a positive for pickup games with randoms (in a dedicated playgroup you don't really need them). The game changers list looks fairly solid, although green gets off way too easy for being the strongest color in casual. I think there are some edge cases that I don't really like (for example bracket 1 decks that need good card draw or tutors from the game changers list to function end up in bracket 4 where they'll get destroyed), but I'm not sure how to fix them. It seems like "3" is probably the new seven. Not sure how bracket 4 is really for, not CEDH but Thoracle/MLD/Stax/infinite turns are explicitly allowed is a weird environment and I'm not sure exactly who will play it. The biggest upside is that it could reduce friction in getting into pickup games at Magic Cons or other non-playgroup environments, which is nice. Having set rules that everyone agrees to rather than trying to hash it all out at the table seems like a major improvement there.

@nightgaunt98c @SaffronOlive I didn’t say specifically ‘fetch lands’ (tho they are highly played) … but Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, and Myriad Landscape are the top most played lands.

@EliW @SaffronOlive I suspect you're wrong. Fetch lands are still expensive enough that most people aren't playing them, outside of the budget versions. But Cultivate and company are in nearly every deck with green in it.

@jg_boyce @mtg_hotdog Yeah. Without appropriate amounts of tutors and no infinate draw combos … yeah, it’s prob fine.

@mtg_hotdog not allowed to play tutors to find them, not allowed to play 2-card combos that draw your deck... this is probably fine, no?

@SaffronOlive Like mystical tutor on GC list … but personal tutor isn’t? Is Grim tutor ‘that much worse’ than demonic? (I mean, it is worse but) … no Urza’s Saga … or Gamble, or Worldly tutor on the list either …. And that’s just looking at tutors.

@SaffronOlive It’s a start. But IMO will need adjusting. I looked through all my decks and realized most of my most powerful/oppressive decks are B4 by only a couple cards, easy to make a couple cuts and now B3. On the flip side seems a lot of cards perhaps were missed from the list?

@SaffronOlive I'm not sure if that's a bad thing or not. It can be very powerful, and only one color is good at it. Preventing it would definitely lower the power level of a bracket.

@themanaleek ‘Based on commander’ is an interesting phrase. Since it isn’t saying: “Separate client for playing commander with”

Am I understanding this right? I play Virtue of Courage in my Purphoros deck. I play a creature, my opponents take a total of six damage from Purphoros, I impulse draw 6? Isn't this card kind of busted in Commander?
