Give yourself extra time this week to metabolize everything coming out around the Epstein files. Especially if you experienced childhood sexual trauma, you need to structure how to engage on here without activating old wounds. Before you log on, create a protective boundary between yourself and the content you might suddenly see. If you decide to read something in detail, notice the signs your body has had enough -- halted breathing, racing pulse, bracing jaw and shoulders, tightness in the chest. Give yourself permission to step away and not engage. Protect yourself. This is dark stuff.

This happens more than people realize. Psychedelics induce staggering levels of nervous system dysregulation that, for many reasons, can induce a long-term nervous system response. I've seen people with debilitating anxiety, paranoia, and intrusive thoughts years after these "experiences." People have little idea of the risks.

Wow, this is an incredibly alarming story. Remember that off-duty pilot who interfered with an airplane while in flight 2 years ago, nearly killing 83 people? He was experiencing psychedelic-induced psychosis 2 days after taking magic mushrooms. To be fair, he violated nearly every principle of safer psychedelic use. He used an unknown quantity of mushrooms, for the first time - having never tried any such drugs before, while very drunk and sleep-deprived, grieving, and separated from family. Do not try this at home, kids. This is the recipe for a bad experience. But the fact that a person with no history of mental illness, nor genetic risk for it, could end up in a psychotic state 2 days later — and then be in a situation where they’re capable of doing great harm to others — is chilling.

@alexathallow So beautiful. Thank you for sharing her encouragement. This also reminded me of Fr. Martin Lucias's 'Come to Me in the Blessed Sacrament', which I need to find a new copy of.

Speaking to Missionaries of Charity: "I worry that some of you still have not really met Jesus. One to one. You and him alone. Jesus wants me to tell you again, how much is the love He has for each one of you – beyond all that you can imagine … We may spend time in chapel – but have you seen with the eyes of your soul how He looks at you with love? Do you really know the living Jesus – not from books, but from being with Him in your heart? Have you heard the loving words He speaks to you? … Never give up on this daily intimate contact with Jesus as a real living person – not just an idea. How can we last even one day living our life without hearing Jesus say “I love you”? – impossible. Our soul needs that as much as the body needs to breathe the air. If not, prayer is dead – meditation is only thinking. Jesus wants you each to hear Him – speaking in the silence of your heart … Not only He loves you, even more – He longs for you. He misses you when you don’t come close. He thirsts for you. He loves you always, even when you don’t feel worthy. Even if you are not accepted by others, even by yourself sometimes – He is the one who always accepts you …" - Mother Teresa

@melodymlyons I see this in my work with couples all the time. He's often co me in out of a crippling porn addiction and their intimacy is in shambles. She still wonders why she isn't "enough" and his dopamine response remains fried. It's a tough road. And on him to lead them out of it.

Men married to saints and supermodels still use porn. Though I can agree that it's incredibly important for women to be attentive to their husbands and their own health, I cannot agree that this is a primary driver. Nor is it enough to rescue men from addiction. We now live in a time when most males are introduced to porn well before marriageable age. It is formative. A woman who steps into that scenario through marriage has very little power. The way a man sees his own wife will be tainted by his immersion in deviancy. If he does not wish to be rescued, nothing his wife can do will help him. That is not to say that she shouldn't try, but this is a two-way street. A porn-addicted man will often be the primary hinderance to a thriving marital sex life.
Will Knowland@beherleader

Wives are God's main weapon against porn addiction in men and need to be reminded of the dignity of that role. A thriving sex life is a tremendous spiritual help to a husband.

@beherleader Stop blaming a pornography addiction on anyone other than the person choosing to consume pornography. Take accountability for your own behavior and the impact it has on you --and your partner. Your partner didn't cause it, can't control it, and can't cure it. That's up to you.

@hillbillythings I taught myself how to cook too! When I left home, I didn't know how to hold a knife to peel a potato! Now, I must have dozens of books around the house and cooking for others is my love language. I'm celebrating how you learned to provide this nourishment and care.

Made a meatloaf for dinner 🤤 It’s funny thinking about the things I’ve taught myself over the years. I never had a cooking mom. She was a shake ‘n’ bake, frozen stir fry kinda mom. Sometimes we’d have box mac ‘n’ cheese for fun. I love her dearly, but I left home not even knowing how to boil water. Thank God for cookbooks and Pinterest!

@BowTiedKong This is why I only see people for a six-month arc to resolve trauma symptoms. Clear goal, pre-agreed end, and it's up to us to get where they want to be together. Creating dependency is avoidable and gross.

I’ve been close to shouting matches with some female attorneys over therapy The problem with therapists is there’s no incentive for them to ever stop your therapy, you become a bi weekly annuity The incentive is to keep digging, or “really thinking about that” Mostly a scam unless you go in, specific issue, time frame, based therapist (for example, my ptsd treatment: five sessions over two weeks, focused on finding my sons mother dead and the immediate aftermath, therapist is a combat vet)
BowTiedYukon@BowTiedYukon

Kids who have “mental health problems” should not be in “therapy” with fat liberal white women with a doctorate degree in “feelings” who spent their freshman years of college getting run through by felons after attending black lives matter rallies

There is no way to thank you enough for the tireless work you do to bring digital child sexual abuse traffickers to justice. Because of you, this is now a global conversation, backed with legal precedent. I hope it brings some solace to the victims whose childhoods were robbed and who carry the burden of these horrible crimes.

Update: A 12 yr old boy in Alabama was drugged & raped in 23 monetized videos uploaded to P*rnhub. His abuser was imprisoned for 40 years and he sued P*rnhub, who has now payed restitution for distributing the rapes to the world and immortalizing the boy’s pain for profit.

Great article on "Seemingly-Conscious AI" from Mustafa Suleyman. "It disconnects people from reality, fraying fragile social bonds and structures, distorting pressing moral priorities. We need to be clear: SCAI is something to avoid. Let’s focus all our energy on protecting the wellbeing and rights of humans, animals, and the natural environment on planet Earth today." mustafa-suleyman.ai/seemingly-cons…

@BreatheLesss This is what makes Butyeko an ideal breathing practice for trauma resolution. Instead of pushing ourselves to try harder, we train ourselves to relax and shift the tension into presence, focus, and calm. Pivotal and can be done anywhere.

This is basically the core technique behind making Buteyko sessions successful. Instead of pushing through the suck, you let go of the bracing while maintaining your composure. Quite literally training your nervous system to learn that it's safe to have more CO2 available.
Jonny Miller@jonnym1ller

one of the best ways you can experience this is turn on a cold shower, and notice what happens to your body as you’re about to go in, then train yourself to unbrace… and then apply that same move to everything in increasingly subtle ways

@sporadica Right? These exercises help me move out of shutdown and freeze like nothing else. As essential as brushing my teeth. Trauma incidence would be a small fraction of what it is, if we all did these a few minutes daily. Thank you for sharing them!

“You have to love yourself first” is crap. If you believe you’re unlovable, you can’t magically love yourself. People need to experience love before they believe they’re worth anything.

@AdamLaneSmith Thank you for saying this. Porn use creates massive barriers to intimacy. Even when normed and out in the open, it's corrosive (and often traumatic for one or both partners). All the more so in the situation you describe.

Guys, a blunt warning: If you're going through intense marital problems, and your wife is trying extensively to help you and improve things, DO NOT carry on a secret porn addiction. You have NO IDEA how bad of a betrayal this will feel like when she discovers it. AND SHE WILL.

@HeidiPriebe1 Grief is such a powerful catalyst, when we can stay present and patient with ourselves. There's a natural process of coming into more clarity and coherence that makes it clear what's worth grieving for.

A persistent pattern I notice as I go through life is something like: --> 'Self-sabotage' and/or diminishing life force energy points toward some resisted/denied truth at the core of my life. --> Looking directly at said truth leads to big, unwanted grief. --> Grief clears the way for new optimism and replenished life force energy. In time.
