What a great evening, welcoming the United Nations Girls Education Initiative (UNGEI), Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education #FEMNET4GTE delegation and our UNICEF partners to their two day conference in SA. We must remove the barriers of entry and harmful gender stereotypes about girls in education. SA is doing well in this regard but the rate of statutory rape in our schools is reaching crisis levels. Thousands of underage girls fall pregnant in our schools due to sexual abuse either from trusted adults at home or at the hands of staff at their schools. It must stop. The sexual offender’s register must be kept up to date and publicized. This must be checked against SACE records to remove abusers in schools.
