It's a pity that the rather fine 13thC door at St John the Baptist, Cold Overton has been whitewashed as it rather blurs the detail but it certainly lightens the porch up! #AdoorableThursday #Adoorableday

St Peter's Church is tucked away in the quiet village of Arnesby. The church boasts a very impressive tower with an interesting external turret. The west door is also of interest, with iconic arch mouldings giving it a distinctive feel. Photos: Leicestershire Churches

It's funny how we live in a society which claims to be concerned about violence against women and girls, but when some guy is shouting and swearing at a crying young woman I'm the only one to get out of my car to check the situation. Must have been 70 other people in earshot.

Ghosts. The Worcestershire folklorist Jabez Allies (1787-1856) once asked a local whether he had ever seen a ghost, and received the reply, "No, but my horse has."

@_F_B_G_ @commentmag The late med early mod pilgrim souvenir par excellence from Santiago de Compostela was a jet object - bead, little statuette etc. Contracts exist between Compostellan merchants & Asturian manufacturers for the making of 1000s of such items. A sort of black coral!

From April 1, listed places of worship will have to bear the full cost of VAT on repairs. This brings to an end a system that has operated successfully for 20+ years. Local people will have to raise money not just to repair roofs and towers but to pay a 20% tax to the Government.
