A Stanford study found that people who played Pokémon heavily as kids developed a small region of the brain that responds specifically to Pokémon characters. Researchers scanned adults who grew up playing on Game Boy and showed them images of Pokémon like Pikachu and Bulbasaur. Their brains lit up in the same exact spot, a consistent area in the visual cortex tied to recognizing specific categories of objects. The reason comes down to childhood. When you’re young, your brain is more flexible, and spending hours memorizing hundreds of similar-looking Pokémon essentially trained it to carve out space just for them. (via @Stanford)

Imaginemos por un momento que una persona tuvo una infancia sumamente dura. La situación familiar era tan complicada, con temas de adicciones y problemas mentales, que literalmente perdieron la custodia cuando aún era niña. Parte de su vida la paso en instituciones y tutela del estado. Le diagnosticaron a los 13 años con TLP y depresión. Paso por varios tratamientos psiquiátricos por años, sin mejoría. Claramente su vida ya arrastraba problemas serios. En el 2022 fue abusada sexualmente por su exnovio y otros hombres. Este suceso la deja con un trauma psicológico extremo, un declive serio de su estado mental y un sentimiento de ruptura con la vida misma. A los pocos días, decide salta del 5to piso de un edificio para quitarse la vida. El intento falla y queda con vida.... pero con daño irreversible. Sufre una lesión medular completa dejándola parapléjica de la cintura para abajo. Ya no solo es vivir con el trauma infantil, los problemas de depresión, la violación y el intento de suicidio. Si no.... ahora tiene que vivir con dolor crónico, incontinencia y ya no puede vivir sin la ayuda de los demás. Y ahora viene un youtuber imbécil de turno a decirte: hey.... juega jueguitos, eso te hará feliz, aún te funcionan las manitas. Saben que es lo peor.... que no hay que imaginar nada.
