@Ellen4NH agree
but I can't make out the bill number

There is an inherent conflict of interest in legislators voting on bills that they stand to materially benefit from. #NHPolitics #AOCofNH

@FosterDogSummit HB378 was the non-germane amendment in the Senate. Both were 2023, but list as 2024 because they were retained.
English

@Ellen4NH Thank you. She made reference to it in her testimony for #HB1675 and offered to send it to committee as follow up. So hoping it can be referenced with at least starting minute marker here. #NHPolitics
English

Thank you @Ellen4NH for comprehensive introduction for #HB1675 - can you publicly post referenced link with minute markers for bill where the NHCADSV aka #TheCoalition took credit for your efforts on past legislation and inserted a last minute amendment? #NHPolitics #NHGov
English

@FosterDogSummit I'll still try to find the exact video and timestamp, but as per Ellen - it was HB261 where they took credit after opposing the bill in the House.

@MamuniaMaura But opulent places would be forced to rent for less than market rate in order to avoid the tax, so I don't consider that a problem, but a benefit, as it would help bring down the market.
English

@MamuniaMaura I would be interested in figuring out how to say that in law; it's a compromise I could support. And I think the "don't be gone for 3 months" amendment idea kinda effectively gets to the same destination.
English

First bill out of many introduced: HB1707, which calls for both the creation of an additional property tax for vacation homes/short-term rental properties, as well as a housing transfer tax exemption for low- and middle-income home buyers. #AOCofNH #HousingCrisis #LFG
English

@MamuniaMaura You don't have to rent. You just don't get to keep hoarding housing in a state with a housing crisis.
English

@Ellen4NH many 2nd houses (not used as STR) are
•too lavish to be residence
•too rustic/deep off paved road to be residence
•people's retirement plan
•generational houses, g grampa may've had $ but grandkids holding on to it doesn't
I'd rather they spend on upkeep, not let dilapitate
English

@MamuniaMaura If your second home is "too lavish to be a residence", you can absolutely afford extra property tax. But it may be an incentive to bring down your rent prices. Which is ALSO what I want to see.
English

@MamuniaMaura I also was thinking of putting a vacancy rate trigger so the extra tax is only effective when we are in crisis.
English

@MamuniaMaura So you don't have to live there 6 months, you just can't leave it sitting empty for stretches at a time.
English

@Ellen4NH I'm on board if amended just to be about Short Term Rentals
not vacation houses
