The reason Evangelion utterly fails is because it’s constantly trying to tell you that the world is evil. I don’t view the world as evil because I’m a normal fucking person. People just say Evangelion “saved” them because it validates their atheistic, nihilistic worldview.

He did not “sacrifice himself to save everyone” in chapter 5. He did it to give the mastermind the middle finger because he’s a petulant child. I’d even say he’s one of the most evil characters in the series.
