TIM WAKEFIELD WAY AT FENWAY PARK
Forgot to mention that Fenway Sports Group and their partners already have plans to permanently close Jersey Street to vehicular traffic and become a “year-round public gathering space" which sounds like the perfect way to honor Wake.
Belated thank you to my old friend Chris Curtis -- and Greg Hill who I give a lot of shite to -- for jumping on board #WakefieldWay train this morning on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI.
Curtis: “I saw a little bit of a groundswell for it. Jersey Street doesn’t really have any meaning what if you made it Wakefield Way and that’s a way to honor a guy who embodied everything you wanted from a Red Sox player on and off the field.”
Hill: “Oh, I would be all over that… we should start a groundswell movement on that Curtis, I would be all over that.”
Swell. Let's ground it out and turn this Wake into a Wave.
Also, retiring Tim Wakefield's No. 49 -- on 4/9 or another day next season-- is a no-brainer and easy-peasy for the Red Sox.
The horribly-named Jersey Street change is going to take a little bit of effort from John Henry -- and his attorney on these matters David Friedman -- to once again push through Boston’s Public Improvement Commission.
But this change would be a thousand percent less controversial and contentious than the Yawkey Way removal that went through in 2018. The sixth Earl of Jersey, George Augustus Frederick Child Villiers, is not walking through that courtroom door, fans.
So let's get something done right, and quickly, for a change.
