For a bit of comedy relief, rough calc for number of cash only barbers (and their staff levels) now in Woking, and using relatively recent population data, every male who lives locally would have to be getting their hair cut every 72 hours for them to cover costs.

63%. In which Gately gets fucked up fighting the Nucks. Orin sort of submits a survey. Other acts of slapstick brutal pathos. The end is nowhere near nigh but Im well past the point where there is more ahead than recedes away behind me. I’m not sure how I feel about that

45%. Bonkers. Prescient bonkers though. The horrors of addiction this time meeting a junior tennis player who competes with a handgun held to his temple. Moving to paperback improves the experience. David would approve of this.

If a Somalian family is living in British social housing, a Restore Britain Government would deport them. Their wellbeing and financial security is just not our problem.

The first 300-350 pages chaotic and nobody could ever find momentum, you feel. Pieces don’t ever really fit but slowly he brings things together and finally Dear Hearts we gain a longing for what is to come instead of a fear. Slapstick brutal personal pathos? Who knows.

@DCompanyBookie Any of them got family in these northern towns? I don’t think people realise quite what has been going on in them. The scale of it alone is remarkable.

@EllroyLove A lot of my uni friends are either playing dumb or very naive. Did go to a red brick with middle class whites. I get the impression they think I'm crackpot.

Nationalise Morrisons, use it as the foundation for a new, publicly-owned grocery store selling high quality, affordable food. National-level version of the Mamdani plan in New York. Need to think big in a world with repeated, major shocks to essential supply systems.

@InnoBystander I’m not really representative as a Londoner/ Surrey-er with a load of northern relatives inc a couple from Sheffield and Rotherham. Everyone does seem to say “yeah it’s happening in my town too” though

@rshotton You already know what he’s going to say though, on pretty much every subject. Pro-Eu, pro-migration, pro-trans, anti-Trump etc etc. He just thinks exactly what he’s conditioned to think, and as such is no use to anyone.

Falling immigration numbers offer us a chance to reset the debate and ask how and why people coming to the UK and leaving it changes all our lives. Scream at me all you want but I refuse to ignore the facts in favour of anyone’s divisive fiction and will keep speaking up for a better way forward for all.

🚨 Net migration has fallen to 171,000. But the underlying numbers tell the real story: 🇬🇧 British nationals: -136,000 🇪🇺 EU nationals: -42,000 🌍 Non-EU nationals: +349,000 So the “drop” in migration is largely being driven by more British and EU nationals leaving the country… …while net migration from the rest of the world still remains extremely high. Our politicians still do not understand why the British public is unhappy with immigration policy.
