Pre-snap, Dallas appears to have a single-high shell, but that alone does not tell us whether it’s Cover 1 or Cover 3.
The corner on the boundary side is aligned aggressively, but from the broadcast angle it’s difficult to see his technique after the snap.
By the time the ball is in the air, there appears to be a significant coverage breakdown/deep leverage issue, which makes it harder to isolate the receiver’s release win from the coverage structure
This clip proves Smitty got open and made a play. It does not prove he will consistently win against press man coverage without a proven bigger bodied WR on the other side.

It’s going to be really fun to watch how CP leverages a secondary built for versatility. With Caleb Downs’ ability to align at safety, nickel, linebacker, or even outside corner in certain packages, along with the addition of Jalen Thompson’s range and instincts on the back end and Cobie Durant’s physicality and ball skills, Dallas has the personnel to disguise coverage at a much higher level than we’ve seen in recent years.
The flexibility of 3-4 base while incorporating opponent-specific sub-packages such as 4-3 spacing and 4-2-5 nickel should allow the defense to present two-high shells pre-snap before rotating into Cover 1, Cover 3, robber looks, or match concepts post-snap

Cowboys DC Christian Parker has implemented a heavy dose of disguise elements into his defense this offseason, and CeeDee Lamb has taken notice: “It’s annoying. It’s been annoying to prepare against, but obviously you see it in practice every day and seeing different guys communicate and be able to take what they learn from the meeting room and easily translate it on the field. It’s good to go against, it’s very tricky. As for the offense, we just have to play fast and get to our spots.”

Fair. I don’t think DCs will spam press man.
But I do think Smitty will find it harder to beat press man as consistently without AJ on the other side to draw a Safety’s attention. I think fewer DCs will play 2 high against Philly and opt for cover 1 or 3 and press Smitty with inside leverage to get him out of rhythm.
If Lemon can step up then that of course changes things but I’m not sure if he’ll fill AJ shoes year 1

@Ells_DTX I just think the narrative that you’re just going to press Smitty into oblivion every play is a little lazy. Yes he’s light but he’s also cat quick at the LOS like Chad Johnson who had a similar build. You may have some success a few times but he’ll beat that more times than not.

And nah in all honesty as I have said with Downs, I’d say we would need to see. They haven’t played a down in the NFL yet.
Lemon could be the next AJ, or he could be Reagor 2.0. Downs could be Ed Reed or never live up to the hype. It’s not disrespect. I’m just being realistic.

Consistency has been his biggest issue. Dude is an athletic freak so if he can play at a high level consistently he’s a lock at LT

Not sure there is an *ACTUAL* true competition at LT. In my eyes, it's more about delivering a message to Guyton. It's now or never. I've said before that Guyton's future is swing tackle. I hope he proves me wrong. Step 1: Get through camp healthy

Without AJ, the defense no longer has to worry about an elite X receiver consistently winning isolated matchups outside.
DeVonta Smith is an outstanding route runner, but he’s a different type of threat.
Physical corners can challenge him at the LOS more than they could Brown.
