March 14, 2002. SpaceX incorporated. At the time, most people thought it was a vanity project. Today it’s the most dominant aerospace company on the planet.

Elon Musk: “Tesla has the most advanced real-world AI, and hopefully it will be approved soon in Europe.  We’re told by the authorities that, the March 20th it'll be approved in the Netherlands. And I think people in Europe are going to be pretty blown away by how good the Tesla car AI is in being able to drive.  And I think this year really it will be the case that you, from a technical standpoint, you'll be able to fall asleep in the Tesla and wake up at your destination."

Elon Musk: “Nothing any of my companies have done has been to stifle competition. In fact, we've done the opposite, At Tesla, we have open-sourced our patents. Anyone can use our patents for free.  At SpaceX, we don't use patents. Once in a while, we'll file a patent just so some patent troll doesn't cause trouble. But we've done nothing anti-competitive.”

Elon Musk: “One thing I can say is I think the future is going to be very interesting, It’s better to err on the side of optimism and be wrong than err on the side of pessimism and be right for quality of life. You’ll be happier if you err on the side of optimism, And so, I recommend erring on the side of optimism”

Elon Musk: “You can always learn something from a competitor, but strategically, they(legacy automakers) are just headed in the direction of the dinosaurs. They are not headed for a good place - dinosaurs are not around anymore We are certainly going a very different path. Electric and autonomous driving has been blindingly obvious to me for 20 years plus We need to do what is sensible and logical. At Tesla, we are essentially creating the future, and it’s a good future.”

Elon Musk on High-bandwidth connectivity directly from Starlink satellites to regular phone: “So in parallel, we’re building the satellites and working with the handset makers to add these frequencies to the phones. And then the satellites and the phones will handshake very well to achieve high-bandwidth connectivity" You should be able to watch videos anywhere on your phone”

Elon Musk: “If you don’t have access to the internet, or it’s too expensive or low bandwidth, you cannot access MIT lessons, you can’t access information, and you can’t sell your goods and services, Starlink will actually move the GDP of countries, Because GDP is simply average productivity per person and connectivity massively boosts productivity”

Elon Musk: "I thought the self-driving problem would be hard, but it was harder than I thought. It's not like I thought it would be easy, I thought it would be very hard, but it was actually way harder than even that. I mean, what it comes down to at the end of the day is to solve self-driving, you basically need to recreate what humans do to drive, which is: humans drive with optical sensors (eyes) and biological neural nets. That's how the entire road system is designed to work, So for actually for full self-driving to work, we have to recreate that in digital form."

Elon Musk: “It seems like China listens to everything I say and does it, basically Or at least they’re doing it independently - I don’t know. But they’re certainly making massive battery packs, producing vast numbers of electric cars, and deploying enormous amounts of solar power These are all things I said we should do here.”

Walter Isaacson on Elon Musk’s greatest strengths: “One of the things that Elon is successful because of is his ability to iterate, to take risks, and to conduct experiments, Starship, the biggest rocket ever made, has launched twice. Both times it exploded The media called it failure, Elon called both launches a success His(Elon’s) philosophy is simple “If you’re not failing 20% of the time, you’re not risking enough” Every flight is a deliberate experiment: push the limits, see what breaks, learn fast, fix fast Risk-averse cultures like NASA, Boeing, and Lockheed don’t experiment enough Real innovation requires embracing the unknown and taking real risks This is how he changes the world”

Elon Musk: "If somebody executes well, I'm a huge fan, and if they don't, I'm not. I generally think it's a good idea to hire for talent, and drive, and trustworthiness. And I think goodness of heart is important—I undervalued that at one point. So, are they a good person, trustworthy, and smart, talented, and hardworking. If so, you can add domain knowledge. But those fundamental traits, those fundamental properties, you cannot change."

JUST IN:— Starlink just crossed 10,000 satellites in orbit. No other network comes close. Total capacity is now around 450 Tbps — serving more than 10 million users worldwide. A few years ago, 10,000 satellites in orbit sounded like science fiction. Today it’s Starlink’s milestone.

Elon Musk: “People are mistaken when they think that technology just automatically improves. It does not automatically improve. It only improves if a lot of people work very hard to make it better. If you look at the progress in space, in 1969, we're able to send somebody to the moon. Then we had the space shuttle. The space shuttle could only take people to low Earth orbit. Then the space shuttle retired, and the United States could take no one to orbit. So that's the trend. The trend is like, down to nothing. You look at great civilizations like ancient Egypt, and they were able to make the pyramids, and they forgot how to do that. And the Romans, they built these incredible aqueducts—they forgot how to do it."

Elon Musk: "We live in the most interesting times and I think this is like 80% likely to be good and 20% bad. And I think if we're cognizant and careful about the bad part, on balance actually, it will be the future that we want, or the future that is preferable. I think everyone will have access to goods and services and education. And so, I think probably it leads to more human happiness."

Elon Musk: "There are really only three hard things for humanoid robots: the real-world intelligence, the hand, and scale manufacturing. And I haven't seen any even demo robots that have a great hand, But Optimus does have that. We had to design custom actuators, basically custom-designed motors, gears, power electronics, controls, sensors—everything had to be designed from physics first principles. There is no supply chain for this.”

Elon Musk: “I do think that it matters how you build the AI and what kind of values you install in the AI My opinion on AI safety is the most important thing is that it be maximally truth-seeking - that you don’t force the AI to believe things that are false. With Grok, we’ve tried very hard for Grok to get to the truth of things. It’s only really recently that we’ve been able to have some breakthroughs on that front It’s taken an immense amount of effort for us to basically overcome all the bullshit that’s on the internet and for Grok to actually say what’s true and to be consistent in what it says”

Elon Musk: “Optimus is a general-purpose, sort of, worker droid. The initial roles for Optimus would be in work that is repetitive, boring, dangerous— Basically, work that people don't want to do unless they're paid to do it.” And Optimus has two legs/hands and 10 fingers because, “Humanity has designed the world to interact with a bipedal humanoid with two arms and ten fingers. So, if you want to have a robot fit in and be able to do things that humans can do, it must be of roughly the same size and shape and capability."
