@TheOnlyFronk @JeffreyLuscombe Most people want a modern high-speed rail across this huge continent, that doesn't currently have it. And people will use it even if they don't live near it, just like they do for airports. Stop being an ignorant fool.

20 years ago, a man screamed his own name into a microphone and ruined everything. It became one of the most famous moments in internet history. A group of players in an online game called World of Warcraft had spent several minutes planning a complicated raid. Timing, positioning, survival odds. One player calculated their chances of success at 32.33 percent, repeating. The whole time, one of their teammates wasn’t listening. He’d stepped away from his computer to reheat some chicken. When he came back, he ignored everything, screamed his character’s name at the top of his lungs, and charged straight into the fight alone. Everyone followed him in. They all died in seconds. “Leeroy, you are just stupid as hell.” “At least I have chicken.” The clip spread across the internet before “going viral” was even a phrase. It was referenced in South Park, How I Met Your Mother, and an article in a military journal. The game’s developer added the character as an official figure inside the game. His name became shorthand for anyone who ruins a plan by doing something reckless. The whole thing was staged. The group admitted years later it was a scripted re-enactment of something that had actually happened. The cameraman said: “We didn’t think anyone would believe it was real. We thought it was so obviously satire.” The player behind Leeroy Jenkins is a guy named Ben Schulz. He repairs industrial lighting for a living.

This was like the Holy Grail to have as a kid in the 80s. You felt like a millionaire if you got this for a birthday, payment for lawn work etc.

@Lone_Grainger @sarobertsonca Fire, Police and ambulance do charge for services. Municipalities in Alberta pay millions each year for these exact services. That's some of what your tax dollars pay for. That being said, the new NDP guy Is spouting a ton of nonsense...

@sarobertsonca Canada post charges fees to use the service.. police, fire, health do not.. as a leader of a federal party.. how is it you don’t know this difference. ? Most Canadians would choose not to get government delivered junk mail.. so no twit.. try harder on something else..

Avi Lewis: "We have shoved Canada Post so far into the market mindset that every few months we have a national conversation about why isn't Canada Post making money. Does the ambulance service make money? Do the police services make money? We're talking about a fundamental public service."

Everyone needs to be reminded that a not-for-profit grocery chain exists in Canada: Co-op, and they’re across western Canada. Prices are comparable to for-profit chains. Also Saskatchewan has a publicly owned telecoms company, SaskTel. It is a competitive market and some people still choose for-profit providers. These are good options but not magical ones! They don’t solve poverty and hunger and they definitely aren’t 35% cheaper.
cbcwatcher@cbcwatcher

Avi Lewis on CBC claims "We're talking about, for instance, with groceries developing a chain of 50 publicly owned and operated grocery stores across the country with six or seven regional distribution hubs that would be able to provide groceries to Canadians 30 to 45% cheaper than what they're paying right now." Then he claims "To just blast this idea out there on social media platforms and we got thousands of responses from conservatives who were interested in this idea of a public option for groceries." Margins at grocery stores are notoriously low in the 3–5% range. Looks like Avi's strategy is to out BS Mark Carney, Master BS'er @avilewis

🚨 HIGHWAY PATROL PLOWS UPSIDE-DOWN CAR ACROSS LIVE CALIFORNIA FREEWAY — AND DRIVERS ARE STUNNED This just happened in Riverside, California and drivers couldn’t believe what they were watching. A California Highway Patrol unit lines up… then plows a flipped vehicle sideways across multiple lanes like it’s nothing. • Car completely upside down • Plowed across FOUR lanes of traffic — median to the shoulder • Patrol vehicle uses brute force to clear it • No warning… just impact People watching from behind the wheel are shocked this is even allowed. Most drivers thought this would make it worse… not be standard procedure. Now everyone’s asking the same thing: Since when was this an option… and how often are they doing this without people noticing?
