Two paper acceptances in two hours, for papers Ive been working on for years?(!) I will never experience this high again

My paper “eroticised refusal narratives and perspectival rape myths” has been accepted and is forthcoming in Phil Imprint(!) This is a version of the very first material I wrote for my PhD and I’m so happy and relieved that it’s finally found a home philpapers.org/rec/WILERN

@daisyldixon Not to mention that extremely male dominated work places are typically hostile to the point of danger to women who work there.. A welder was murdered at work by her male colleague a week ago

@AmeliaHorgan I’m also v aware of the tendency of those same men to cast any photo a woman posts of herself as necessarily an excercise in vanity which I think is patently absurd

@AmeliaHorgan Yeah, so algorithm filters are definitely a factor. I feel like there’s a plurality of permissible ‘flavours’ of the who cares response. Like, “rising above it” is great, but I don’t think affirmation/vocal antagonism (for want of a better term) is wrong either

call me lame, call me mid, call me a spoilsport, but surely a fitting response to "it's not hot for women to do a phd!" is saying who cares rather than affirming the question of whether it is hot or not at all

@AmeliaHorgan Like, if a contingent of men react extremely negatively to women’s academic achievements by appeal to attractiveness, fertility etc etc, I think a response of being *more* vocal and saying “ok, die mad about it” is at least permissible

@AmeliaHorgan I’m sure there’s different facets/maybe it’s my own feed, but I think this is an uncharitable interpretation. My impression of the trend has been an affirmation of pride/achievement not “hotness” (or male desirability)

@Emiliarative Sometimes the truth is ugly. I already work in education by the way. There's this thing called humility. Maybe you should do your next degree on it, little lady.

Soooo distraught that my doctorate won’t make me more attractive to wannabe MRA grifters 😢 That - and the pretty gown - were surely the only reasons for getting the degree

@Emiliarative It was a self-fulfilled prophecy. You were already predisposed to that kind of behavior. I mean... you're the type of person to get a useless degree like that. It already says a lot.

@Emiliarative You can have a degree and be a total asshole that no one wants to be around. Isaac Newton was quite the asshole. The degree doesn't make you likeable, but instead of thinking critically, you get caught in your fragile emotions.
