My paper “eroticised refusal narratives and perspectival rape myths” has been accepted and is forthcoming in Phil Imprint(!)
This is a version of the very first material I wrote for my PhD and I’m so happy and relieved that it’s finally found a home

@rbnmckenna86 Love gentle the reassurance of “why it’s ok to be moderate”

@daisyldixon Not to mention that extremely male dominated work places are typically hostile to the point of danger to women who work there..
A welder was murdered at work by her male colleague a week ago

PhDs are about setting your own research agenda - you can totally lose your mind every year if you like
Fizza@fizzasuhel
Is PhD 2nd year the time where you totally lose your mind or there will be scope for more later? Asking for a friend. #econtwitter

@AmeliaHorgan I’m also v aware of the tendency of those same men to cast any photo a woman posts of herself as necessarily an excercise in vanity which I think is patently absurd
English

@AmeliaHorgan Yeah, so algorithm filters are definitely a factor. I feel like there’s a plurality of permissible ‘flavours’ of the who cares response. Like, “rising above it” is great, but I don’t think affirmation/vocal antagonism (for want of a better term) is wrong either
English

@AmeliaHorgan Like, if a contingent of men react extremely negatively to women’s academic achievements by appeal to attractiveness, fertility etc etc, I think a response of being *more* vocal and saying “ok, die mad about it” is at least permissible
English

@AmeliaHorgan I’m sure there’s different facets/maybe it’s my own feed, but I think this is an uncharitable interpretation. My impression of the trend has been an affirmation of pride/achievement not “hotness” (or male desirability)

@GOEPhil454 Wow, didn’t realise making assumptions about others’ characters based on a tweet & branding their degree useless while knowing nothing about it was practicing humility - thanks for the guidance lil guy!
English

@Emiliarative Sometimes the truth is ugly. I already work in education by the way. There's this thing called humility. Maybe you should do your next degree on it, little lady.

Soooo distraught that my doctorate won’t make me more attractive to wannabe MRA grifters 😢
That - and the pretty gown - were surely the only reasons for getting the degree

Dr Daisy Dixon@daisyldixon
“just look at the degree on that chick”
English

@GOEPhil454 This is an ugly comment, but I imagine it’s aggravating to see so many accomplished women as a self-described “wannabe scholar”
English

@Emiliarative It was a self-fulfilled prophecy. You were already predisposed to that kind of behavior. I mean... you're the type of person to get a useless degree like that. It already says a lot.
English

@guitarguy1428 Hmm, my tweet doesn’t say anything about the entire population of men.. Logical inference doesn’t seem to be your strong point- maybe a philosophy degree would help?
English

@Emiliarative The fact that you think that a minority of men who look at this and aren’t impressed are somehow indicative of the entire population of men shows you learned nothing in school.
English

@GOEPhil454 Are you under the impression I got my degrees to become more likeable..?
Can assure you that four years studying sexual violence and prejudice made me more of a bitch than ever, don’t worry
English

@Emiliarative You can have a degree and be a total asshole that no one wants to be around. Isaac Newton was quite the asshole. The degree doesn't make you likeable, but instead of thinking critically, you get caught in your fragile emotions.
English

@Emiliarative Damn! Look at the degree on that chick
Never seen a graduation gown more beautiful. You stunned!😍
