I read a 19c article about how to not get ripped off at a cheap NYC restaurant and it advised that you make sure you accompany your meal merely with a "cup of cool Croton" (reference to the Croton aqueduct). After that I started referring to NYC tap water as Croton

Ryan Murphy says Madonna is the “most important artist of the last 50 years”: “No one comes close in cultural import, other than Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney, both of whom are truly incredible artists for the ages. […] The hate Madonna has received, and survived. It's beyond comprehension. There is no one in my lifetime who has meant more to me, or had more of an impact on art, fashion, music, ALL OF IT. Than Madonna.”

It's all to cope with the fact that there isn't an English speaking city on the planet that has punched below it's cultural/populational weight more than NYC has. Punk is all they have, and even then they're barely in the top 5 most important cities of that scene.

In the end, journalists from NYC love their role as “tastemakers” but their tastes have always diverged from the masses. Back when there was real money to be made, they were one important source to music industry decision while “sales momentum and crowd excitement” were other

one of the most common rebuttals i hear from femcels over the Gio Scotti issue is "she doesn't even know you exist", which cracks me up because this is a clear misunderstanding of what role beauty icons actually serve to society imagine if someone criticized the president's behaviour and your only rebuttal was "he doesn't even know you exist." this doesn't land because this person is a public servant elevated by the people for the people a similar unspoken contractual obligation takes place when a beauty icon is elected by the public. the purpose they serve is to uphold a standard that the people elected them for, and in doing so act as a magnet towards others in society of their gender to gravitate their appearance and mannerisms towards this is what Gio actually represented for right wing chuds. worship of her was not actually a parasocial desire to be individually noticed by and loved by her, at least not across the board (i know some obsessive stalker types will exist in any sort of celebrity worship sphere), but she was a representation of what we desired women to be. pretty, youthful, graceful, smiled a lot, playful, had spirit to her, and she was a rebellion amongst a previously elected cultural beauty standard which had grown tired in return for being these things she was given fame and adoration. this is not something which was ever hers, it was the people's awarded to her for her service. but she became entitled to it and backstabbed the public she served, and in doing so there is now a rebellion to strip her of her status because she had broken her end of the deal she stopped being pretty and fun, she became drab and frankly just an eyesore. so she is no longer worthy of her spot. of course the public would LIKE for her to be worthy, we enjoy having a symbol, however she kicks and screams and only shovels down more cake slices and then tells us the fame we gave her is hers to hold on to it will dissolve into this sort of sad instagram D-tier eceleb clout where the only people who really care about her are just other unattractive women who simply flock to anyone with a follower count in the six figures and random third worlders commenting "😍😍😍" but she has betrayed her base and no adoration is deserved on her end for it now in her fame the only purpose she serves is to let other mids gas themselves up and feel like if she is such a big deal then they're perfectly fine as they are, instead of instilling the feeling of inadequacy she was elected to make them feel which would possibly cause them to hold themselves to a higher standard this is an example of a malicious public servant misusing their power to betray the base which elected them gio scotti rаped us

“This will sound like an obnoxious ‘only in New York’ thing.” Ya because it is!! Now NYC is the only place where you can walk? That has nice days and fresh air??
Marc Torrence@marctorrence

This will sound like an obnoxious “only in New York thing” but randomly deciding to walk 6 miles home from work because it’s a nice day and you want some fresh air is really an amazing experience you can’t get anywhere else
