More breaking news this morning, CCSD Board Member Kevin Hollinshead is indicted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for accepting a bribe in exchange for his influence and for wire and bank fraud related to COVID relief loans.

The other five involved in the investigation do not yet have sentencing dates scheduled, according to the federal court docket.

The only one who pleaded not guilty was Rose Emily Lorenzo. Her jury selection is now scheduled for July 6 with a pretrial conference set for July 2.

A notice of intent to sue was filed and sent to the Charleston County Detention Center’s medical provider, VitalCore. If the medical provider does not respond within the next 120 days, an official lawsuit will be filed against VitalCore and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Within the week, two inmates have now died at the Charleston County Jail. 61-year-old Kenneth Samuel died yesterday inside the facility and 46-year-old Omar Grant on February 14.
