This film depicted the embodied experience of physical and environmental injuries in flooding events through animation and was based on the combined #environmental #disaster research of two years of ethnographic observations, focus groups, interviews and art-making

One looks back, wanting to tell everything without hesitation and there is nothing left, everything has been told a thousand times. Hands empty. It is our fate: To start again with the simplicity of the first letter. ― Luisa Valenzuela

My new paper is out today discussing the history, purpose, & effects of labelling something a public health issue. Main argument: public health is as much an analytical stance as a field of study, & we should acknowledge the values & politics it entails. link.springer.com/article/10.105…

Our ambulance team & @RedCrossUkraine volunteers in Mykolaiv evacuate wounded people from near the frontlines almost daily. Bringing people to hospitals for care is often a life-saving act. It's tough but essential work. Our teams’ bravery and professionalism is admirable

Yelena and her mother Valentina fled fighting in Lugansk back in 2017. They found shelter in an abandoned school here in Odesa, with no running water or heating despite the bitter winter. Then she lost her husband to cancer. She told me it’s been a long fight for survival.

An estimated 16·9 million lives (32·9% of all deaths worldwide) were lost from conditions needing surgical care. This figure well surpassed the number of deaths from HIV/AIDS (1·46 million), tuberculosis (1·20 million), and malaria (1·17 million) combined. #globalsurgery
