I was just there with another reporter for two days. I speak Persian so spoke to people directly, not through an interpreter. This is not what I found at all. I found a wide variety of opinions, including those who are supportive of the war, and those who oppose it and those who are ambivalent. There were also people who were pro-regime. There was no overwhelming sentiment in favor of the conflict.

עדויות: מתנחלים התעללו מינית באופן אכזרי בגבר לעיני משפחתו, אזקו את הנשים ואיימו לחטוף את הילדות. הבעתה של הנערה הצעירה קפואה, באוהל הדל אמה מתארת כיצד מתנחלים רעולי פנים חבטו בבנותיה ואיימו שאם המשפחה לא תעזוב עד מחר - " הם יקחו את הבנות ויחיו איתן, ואז הוא משך אליו את ביתי וסטר לה. הייתי אזוקה ולא יכלתי לעשות דבר ". הצעירה מהנהנת באישור, ארשת פניה חתומה. לפי עדויות באוהל ישבו הגברים והנשים אזוקים בעוד המתנחלים מכים בגברים, אחד הותקף מינית באופן אכזרי. בשלב מסויים, מעידה פעילת נוכחות מגנה שישנה במקום, מתנחל חתך בסכין את מעילה, מהכתף לכיוון הירך והחל להתעסק עם החגורה בעוד היא צורחת. הילדים ממלמלים תפילה בין צעקות הכאב, וכשאחד פורץ בבכי משתיקים אותו במהרה. התושבים חוזרים על איום המתנחל דובר הערבית "פעם הבאה - נשרוף את הבתים, נהרוג את הילדים - ונאנוס את הנשים". בתום כשעה מעידים שברחו המתנחלים עם מאות ראשי צאן לכיון ההתנחלות הסמוכה בקעות. ששה פונו לקבלת טיפול רפואי - ביניהן פעילה אמריקאית ופורטוגלית. עדויות ממתקפת המתנחלים בסופ״ש בחומסה בצפון בקעת הירדן. לינק בשרשור.

הרג ארבעת בני המשפחה בטמון היום - אמא, אבא ושני ילדים - החזירה אותי למקרים הרבים שסקרתי בתור כתבת שטחים בהם חיילים הרגו ילדים צעירים. הדבר הזה נורמל לחלוטין בגדה, נבלע בין דיווחים של תקשורת אדישה, דבר שכמובן סייע למערכת ״אכיפת החוק״ של הצבא להמשיך ולא לעשות כלום. ספציפית באיזור צפון הגדה מה שסייע לזה זו גם מדיניות על פיה מקרי מוות שם הם חלק מאירוע לחימתי, כלומר, לא נפתחת חקירה (עקרה ממילא) באופן אוטומטי כפי שהיה בעבר. הפרקליטה הצבאית הראשית (לשעבר), שבאופן מחמיא יחסית להתנהלותה בפועל ידועה בציבוריות הישראלית כמי שפעלה במקרה שדה תימן, בפועל נתנה יד חופשית לחיילים להתייחס לחיי פלסטינים כאילו הם לא שווים שום דבר. התחקירים הצבאיים משמשים לתיאום עדויות והעדר כל ענישה או חקירה הביאה אותנו למצב של היום, כשהתקווה היחידה היא שלחץ מסנקציות בין לאומיות ואולי לחץ תקשורתי ילחיץ מספיק את האנשים במערכות כדי לעשות משהו.

There is an 'optimistic' way to look at current Israeli planning on Lebanon: a very credible threat to compel the authorities to move against Hezbollah. But I don't buy it. It is too late. Israel is going to attack big and invade. The question is what happens next. In my view, Israel will occupy and will treat southern Lebanon (all the way to the Litani River) like the Golan Heights, with a view to depopulate, settle and eventually annex. US pressure will compel Lebanon to enter discussions with Israel, which will ask for normalisation but reject any return of the south or put impossible conditions on an indefinite timeline. Lebanon will say no because there is little popular support for normalisation across society under such circumstances (don't believe the few who sell you a different narrative). Hating Hezbollah does not translate into support for peace with Israel in these conditions. Under these conditions, Lebanon will enter a new era of instability, making reconstruction, let alone recovery, impossible.
