**THIS IS A LONG READ BUT THE CONTENT IS EXPLOSIVE, DO NOT LOOK AWAY. ** I was scrolling through X when I came across the account of @Rebecca_Tidy, and what I discovered is truly staggering. Back in 2024, she was desperately trying to warn the public about the HMP Dartmoor scandal, but almost every major news outlet ignored her. Now that the mainstream media is finally reporting on it, they are still failing to mention the most scandalous details from her original investigation for @BylineTimes. This is far more than just a story about a radioactive prison. It is a massive drain on public funds that is costing the taxpayer millions of pounds. Firstly, we must look at the cancer risk. In 2022, the Conservative Government, with Dominic Raab as Justice Secretary, signed a new lease for HMP Dartmoor. The shocking truth is that they already knew about the dangerous levels of radioactive radon gas as early as 2020. They signed the contract in a state of panic anyway, without including any legal protections for the taxpayer. Secondly, there is the matter of who is profiting. The landlord of this toxic facility is the Duchy of Cornwall, which is the private estate of Prince William worth one billion pounds. We are currently paying £4,000,000 every single year in rent for a building that is completely empty because it is too dangerous to use. Thirdly, the public is caught in a legal trap. Because of the way the Conservatives negotiated this deal, the government is legally committed to this lease until the year 2033. We cannot cancel the agreement and we cannot walk away. We are forced to keep sending millions of pounds to the Royal Family for a ruin that is filled with poison. Finally, the human cost is inexcusable. Prisoners and staff were kept in cells where the radiation was ten times higher than safe limits. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United Kingdom. The government chose to prioritise floor space over human lives and now the public is paying the price for that decision. This represents the ultimate deception: public money is being funnelled into a private royal estate for a death trap that the government is contractually forbidden to close. We must ask why every major editor ignored the pitch from Rebecca Tidy in 2024.
