Please fill out this survey on non chemical worm control i.e. methods that are not worm drenches or worm injections or backliners. Bioworma, cross species grazing and keeping pastures long are all non-chemical methods of worm control.

Before you phone your vet or contact me on the PhoneAvet app examine your goat carefully. Vets will ask the rectal temperature, respiratory rate (watch the chest for 15 seconds then X by 4) and listen on the left hand side of the top abdomen for 2 minutes for rumen movements.

📖 Interesting read for a Friday afternoon… RD&E insights from within NSW DPIRD, internally focused but very common across the Australian agricultural landscape. Especially appreciated the adoption and extension elements. Thanks for sharing @DingoResearch!

Let's talk lambing paddock management! Lambing paddocks need: ✅️ Appropriate pasture biomass ☘️🌱 to meet the needs of the lactating ewe (and her progeny as they commence grazing) ✅ Good shelter 🌳 (to guard against the impacts of rain, wind, and low temperatures) ✅ Freedom from predators 🦊🐷🦅🐖 ✅ Low worm risk 🪱 (ewes will pick up worms from dirty pastures, and pass on worms to lambs) ✅ Appropriate mob size for the paddock and preg status of the ewes (ie singles, or multiples etc) 🐑🐑🐑 (twins get priority to best/most suitable paddocks and then singles) Where ewes are scanned and drafted into single and twin bearing, allocate ewes to lambing paddocks that have the best pasture/best shelter to least pasture/least shelter on the basis of this table from MMFS. Mob size is super important - to allow ewes privacy and optimise the lambing environment. The below are guidelines from MMFS for the MAXIMUM mob size at lambing. Twin-bearing mature ewes - 150 Single-bearing mature ewes - 500 Single-bearing maiden ewes - 400 👩‍💻Source of information - Making More from Sheep - Module 10 - Wean more lambs Check it out - there's loads of super practical information! makingmorefromsheep.com.au/manual/module-… @woolinnovation @AWIExtensionSA @AWIExtensionWA @AWIExtensionTAS @AWIExtensionQLD @AWIExtensionVIC

It's certainly the tale of two seasons for NSW at the present time. Due to the stark contrast in conditions throughout our great state, we've decided to add in an EXTRA webinar in June to cover off on sheep nutrition in all seasonal conditions. We're calling it a 'mini-series' 😀 Details: 1⃣Success with grazing crops - how to get peak animal performance from your grazing crops 📅 17 June ⏲️ 1:00 pm AEST 2⃣ Managing sheep nutrition in dry times - maintaining productivity when the going is tough 24 June ⏲️ 1:00 pm AEST Both webinars will be delivered by Nicole Logg The Livestock Coach As we are delivering these as a mini-series, there will be some cross over and discussion of both good and not-so-good seasonal contexts. We recommend you register for both! Register: awiextensionnsw.com/events/ 📷 Megan Rogers @woolinnovation @AWIExtensionSA @AWIExtensionWA @AWIExtensionTAS @AWIExtensionQLD @AWIExtensionVIC

Ever wondered where your lunch came from? 🍔🤔 In their 2020 study, @OzPIEF found that Aussie schoolkids don’t always know either. Australia’s 15 RDCs are working on a National Food & Fibre Education Strategy that goes beyond teaching students where their food comes from - we want your feedback to shape how we teach #AgInSchools!
