*Adjumani, 5th June 2026* WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026: ADJUMANI DISTRICT CONDUCTS TARGETED RESTORATION ACTIVITIES AS NATIONAL CELEBRATIONS ARE POSTPONED Adjumani District, in partnership with NEMA, MWE, UN Agencies, Friends of Zoka, other partners and select CSOs, today conducted residual environmental restoration activities despite the postponement of Uganda’s national World Environment Day celebrations that were slated for the district. The postponement followed national directives due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak and public health SOPs. However, the District Technical Team and partners proceeded with low-risk, high-impact field activities to keep the momentum of environmental protection alive. The activities conducted included: 1. Community sensitization: Radio talk shows on “No settlement in wetlands” in line with directives from H.E. President Museveni and Hon. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Minister for Water & Environment; 2. Conducted essay competitions amongst learners institutions; 3. Seedling distribution: Over 10,000 tree seedlings distributed to schools, churches, and farmer groups for homestead planting under “Greening Adjumani” 4. Waste clean-up: Clean-up of Ajugopi Market and Adjumani Town Council hotspots to reduce plastic pollution in drainage channels The national event may have been postponed, but the environmental crisis has not. Adjumani remains committed to protecting our wetlands, forests, and soil for refugee-host communities and future generations. The RDC, Deputy RDC Adjumani, DISO & DPC joined by the district political leadership and the district technocrats, participated in the seedlings planting at Elegu Primary School and Arinyapi Secondary School (both locates at Arinyapi subcounty. Ladies and Gentlemen, Today, June 3rd, we stand again at Namugongo - the sacred ground where 139 years ago, young men chose faith over fear, conviction over comfort, and truth over compromise. The Uganda Martyrs did not die for a tribe, a party, or a region. They died for a principle: that no earthly power is greater than the human conscience. That is why their story belongs to all of us - Catholic, Anglican, Muslim, and every Ugandan of goodwill. The Martyrs were young - most between 14 and 25. They were pages, soldiers, servants. In them we see our youth today. They teach us 3 things our nation needs now: First, Integrity in service. The Martyrs refused to corrupt their bodies and their duties even when threatened with death. Today Uganda needs public servants, business people, and citizens who say “no” to corruption, to bribery, to shortcuts. Nation-building starts with character. Second, Unity in diversity. Kabaka Mwanga’s court had Baganda, Banyoro, Basoga, foreigners. The Martyrs died together. Charles Lwanga protected his boys. Matthew Nsonga, a Muslim, died with them. Their blood mixed on that soil. Let no politician, no commentator, no social media post ever divide what their blood united. Third, Sacrifice for the next generation. The Martyrs knew they would not see the Uganda they were building. Yet they stood firm so that 139 years later, we would gather in freedom to worship. Government must imitate that spirit - making decisions today whose fruits our children will harvest. 3. Government’s commitment As Government, we honor the Martyrs by investing in what they died for: human dignity. This year we have: 1. Expanded access to water and sanitation around Namugongo and other shrines. 2. Invested in youth skills and jobs through Emyooga, Parish Development Model, and Industrial Parks. The best way to honor young Martyrs is to give young Ugandans tools to build their future. 3. Protected freedom of worship as enshrined in our Constitution. Uganda will remain a place where every person can pray according to their conscience without fear. We will also continue working with the Church and all faith leaders to fight drugs, gambling, and moral decay that are wasting our youth. The Martyrs said “no” to the king. Our youth must learn to say “no” to destructive habits. Pilgrims, as you return home, carry the fire of Namugongo with you. Be a Charles Lwanga in your village - protecting the weak. Be a Kizito in your school - choosing courage over peer pressure. Be a Mukasa in your office - choosing honesty over bribes. May the blood of the Uganda Martyrs continue to be the seed of our nation. May their courage inspire our leaders, and their purity inspire our youth. God bless the Uganda Martyrs. God bless Uganda. For God and My country

Ugandans want the 12th Parliament to be less about internal perks and more about accountable institutional mandate, re-prioritisation of very essential service delivery areas such as hospitals with medicine, schools with teachers, jobs, key roads and MPs who show up and conduct fruitful debates. Increase the district road fund allocation to 3bn per district.
